whats the difference between paying 8.95 for a domain name and paying 19.95. I mean why wouldnt i go with the cheapest registration possible.

The real difference is the price.

I had a domain with 000domains.com and gkg.net and have been pleased with both of them. I will take my next at Stargateinc.com to try them out they are $10 or $16 for 2 ($8ea.).

Some good registrars:

www.000domains.com (with OpenSRS)

Bad Registar:

www.networksolutions.com :D

Don't go with them...unless you like troubles! They assign nameservers to the competitions, don't reply to email, etc :angry:

i guess my bigger question is why would i pay more for a domain registration. i mean yahoo offers domain reg for 35bucks a year. what am i getting that im not getting with an 8.95 a year domain service?

There is really no advantages of going with a $35/year registrar. Sometime (most of the time) you get better support with a under$15 registrat. 000domains replied to my inquiries in under 60 minutes, StargateInc to my sale questions under 30 minutes and gkg under 60 minutes too. NSI? Still waiting for a simple answer after 2 weeks :)

the only reason for the difference of price is the profit the co. wants to make. Stargateinc (who I use) offers great service at a great price and allows you to easily change the admin, tech, etc. contact from the control panel. They have great phone support as well with no more the 10 minute holds.

what about godaddy ? will they be better ?:confused:

I've used godaddy too for several domains, no problems there. :) Just tried out stargateinc.com too. $16 for 2 domains, not too bad. :)

Well usually when I get a new domain I would go with somebody who alot of people use. I use getadomain.com but I'm not really found of the way you sign up with them. Also when you order a domain with them and get that web promoting thing. You don't know where to go. I highly recommend dotster.com(I learned about them from techtv and there the best for your money) and godaddy.com(i just started using them and they are great.)

thanx for all the advice guys one last thing and i might be done is there a difference other than syntax between having a .com or a .net. i would guess the .com is easier to remember but other than that is there any difference.

checked out stargate their 19.95 plan looks pretty good you get 3 free domains with it. anyone know if they host adult sites or have a comment on stargate on the hosting side.

I use their hosting plans. I don't have a problem. Good uptime. Not sure about the adult hosting.

just registered with godaddy. yay im on my way. only a host is needed now. adult content.

Stargate replied within 30 mins... I am shocked. they failed to respond my emails in weeks even resending same email again and again. Still waiting and counting the days... more then 15 days may be more, I don't remember anymore. I guess they don't like bulk buyers. :stickout

i use http://www.solutionhome.com they have been pretty good to me. I had a question and apparently gave the guy the wrong email address; he went to my website and got a different email off the contact page and contacted me that way.. they are good! Definitely DO NOT USE: bulkregister.com and keyconnect.com!!!

I suggest you state exactly what you want, in terms of space, bandwidth and other specs, and post in the Advertisng forum. You'll get a few offers to consider. Then you can go look at the plans and come back to ask about experiences with those host. :)
