Can someone please tell me the advantages of a Virtual Private Serve with root access?

The advantage of a VPS (Virtual Private Server) are basically that 1) you are isolated from other users, and 2) you get root access, which means you can install most software yourself, instead of relying on your own host to it. If you need to install custom software often, or if you want your sites to be more reliable, a VPS would be a good choice.

Be sure to ask the prospective host about what kind of performance you can expect. If the main server is overloaded, having a VPS won't help you.
