I've got some mailing lists at ListBot and I received email telling this service will soon shut down (or actually it won't shut down, but it'll become a paied service...)

Can anyone recommend another mailing list thingy like ListBot, but which will still be free?

i don't know if it is what you want, but www.yahoogroups.com might help. Then again, it might not. :D

You could try http://www.topica.com .

It is free and the owner of the list can opt out of having ads displayed in their list.

In addition, unlike Listbot, you actually get the emails of your subscribers, or can look it up rather, which you can export if you ever decide to switch list servers or use your own script. Topica is what I use :)

I also have a yahoogroups list, but Yahoo! almost requires that every subscriber have a Yahoo! account, which is a bit odd for the type mailing list I need.

The Topica thingy looks like exactly what I was looking for. They even seem to offer migration assistance for ListBot.com switchers

Hmm, that's strange. I received a verification email almost immediately and the list was set up. I was able to send out a few test messages too. Perhaps it might be best if you tried contacting their support. :)
