From day one i've been having problems with my RAQ, from Rackshack. We bought the standard one, with 128, and we are currently waiting for them to put the other 128 in, from the upgrade offer everyone was offer.

Little Big of history......:-

On the raq we run Ultraboard 2k. I understand that this is a killer on the server, when i telnet in most of the time, we had a reasonable amount of free ram.
But problem after problem, and i demanded a new RAQ from them, which i got........ 2day.

I thought as it's a new RAQ, i'll install the updates straight off.

Now untill this the raq was idle at 0.00 0.00 0.00 and had like 35 process. and 80 megs free of ram available.

After installing the following updates :-

Webalizer Release 1.3
Chili!Soft ASP Interbase upgrade Release 3.5.2.1
CMU-SNMP Update Release 3.7.1
OpenSSH Release 2.9p1-1

I was finding that the free ram was falling as low as 6 megs.

Now the server is inactive ... there isn't anything upload, for people to access ... and no mysql tables created or being accessed. and no Ultradboard running either ... nuttin, the server is blank.

Now what am i doing wrong ?

What should i expect from a server have is inactive and updated ?

Is there an order you need to install the updates....??

Any help on this should really be appricated. Am sick to the back teeth over this RAQ, and it's never follows any kind of pattern, inorder for me to pin point the actual thing causing the problem.

If i had the raq next to me, i'd smash it up !..... am really strested over it ...

If anyone has any tips, info, anything that would be of help to me ... please help ! I walk through, in how to set up the perfect running RAq wouldn't go a miss.

Has anyone experiance this kind of problem ?

Sorry about the long post, but the post is like the amount of problems i am having...

Rackshack are a good help....... only when it suits them.

If i dont get this sorted, am going to put myself in a early grave !!!....... or rackshack.

Thanks in advance......

Vinney

Breath in then out -- in then out.... now that your calm.

From your top output, I can see that there is no load on the server -- thats great. You have all of your httpd, mysqld, and other daemons up and working properly. So why get so upset????

Now for RAM. Many people make a mistake about RAM usage under linux. Most people are used to Mircrosoft-based OS's where the machine does not use RAM as effectively. The top command is misleading to many new users because the memory used line includes buffers and caches.

Use the 'free' command to get a better picture of whats going on on your machine.

For more info on RAM usuage, please see my other post

It has a lot more info for you.
