GregShasta 07-15-2001, 01:04 PM what do i look for besides space(preferably 100mb+)
and will any paid host host adult content or do i need to read the tos with them too.
GregShasta 07-15-2001, 01:05 PM oh and again this is adult content.
GregShasta 07-15-2001, 01:14 PM sorry to keep posting but just as an example i got this offer for 19.95 a month i would get 350 mb of storage 9gig of transfer, php4 support, 250 subdomains, 250 pop3 boxes. is this fairly typical for that price range or is it too good to be true. also is that a good transfer figure.
Get-Hosted.com 07-15-2001, 01:22 PM Good price considering they should be expecting you to use all the transfer.

You already did what you need to do first. . . . .Come to WHT and ask, "What so I need to do"?
Me? I don't know, but someone around here will help.
Good Luck. :D
aaent 07-15-2001, 02:03 PM Pretty good price for that package. What is the company?
GregShasta 07-15-2001, 02:08 PM this is who im thinking about going with:
http://www.ecommercediscovery.com
their economy plan at 19.95 if anyone would visit and look at the features and comment it would be much appreciated.
aaent 07-15-2001, 02:45 PM There packages look good, but the support part of their site is not finished.
choon 07-15-2001, 03:33 PM Hi GregShasta,
You might try to email/contact one of their support staff and see how long they reply your email. This is also one of the factors about choosing a host...
Regards,
Choon

bombino 07-15-2001, 04:45 PM In my opinion, the most important factor in deciding on a webhost is the support department. If you choose a cheap host with bad support and your site dies, then you're in trouble.
The best way is to talk to people that have used the company before and get their opinions.
And BTW, 9gigs of transfer for $19.95 is a pretty good deal (if you use it all).
David@Digisurge 07-15-2001, 06:35 PM 9 gigs for 19.95 is on okay deal. It is a GREAT deal if you are going to have an adult site! Most hosts won't host adult sites because the eat bandwidth. Hosts that do host adult sites usually charge a premium for bandwidth.

GregShasta 07-16-2001, 04:12 PM This may sound foolish but
do i have to have a domain name to buy space.
I mean can i create pages without a domain name
just spool them out under subdomains reason i ask is that im not sure what name i want yet.
thx, Greg
Jonathan K. 07-16-2001, 07:57 PM Hi,
You don't really need a domain name if the hosting provider provides a subdomain for you while you pay for the space and bandwidth. However, I've taken a look at the host you're going with and it doesn't seem like they offer that service.
Getting a domain nowadays is quite cheap. You can find domain registrars charging from $8 to $12 per year, all providing rather excellent services. Since ecommercediscovery.com's domain services aren't ready yet, I suggest you look at registrars like dotster, stargateinc and/or godaddy. I've used the latter 2 myself and have had no problems. :)
It's a good idea to get a domain name which will help brand your site too. I'm assuming that you plan to offer subscription to visitors and therefore it will look more 'professional' if you do use a domain name. Check out services like www.nameboy.com to get suggestions for a domain name.
Hope that helps :D
checkall 07-16-2001, 08:43 PM It looks like that ecommercediscovery.com is a reseller for etableraweb.net.
If you pay annually, its price is $119.4 ($9.95 per month). That's a great deal for adult websites.

Not to say that you're suggesting this, but...
Since I believe that Greg's just starting with a paid host, I'll suggest that he goes with them for a month or so to check out the quality of service first. No offence to the host of course. :) But everyone should try a new host for a few months before deciding to go on a long term contract. And yes, if he's satisfied with their services, signing up for a longer contract is almost always a better deal with the discounts webhosts provides. :)
checkall 07-16-2001, 09:07 PM I think so.
Try it a couple of months and then decide whether or not go longer term.
GregShasta 07-16-2001, 09:08 PM do most hosts charge start up fees or is the monthly charge typically it. ive seen both but i dont want to get caught up in some fineprint type deal. short question long would it be typical to not have a start up fee these days?

Everbody's different. It's not usually a "fine print" thing though. Look around. Don't jump too fast:stickout

We are not a reseller. We have our own server.
checkall 07-16-2001, 11:18 PM But you use etableraweb.net's data center, either colocation or dedicated with WorldCom's connection.
Do you mind tell us where your servers are physically located?
It's somewhere in US.
Good offer!
