View Full Version : CobaltRack.com and RackShack.net
Pillhead 07-15-2001, 12:04 PM ANyone any experiece with these two dedicated server hosts ?
$99 a month seems to be a dream price compared to other places, is there service crap or something ???
Im still not sure to which one to go for because one has 51GB traffic a month and no setup fee but the other has 150GB traffic a month but a fat setup fee.
Anyone experienced with these hosts, will they let you actually kill that much traffic ? Im sick of hosts not meating there traffic proposals coz I seem to get shifted off every server on the market
Aloha
well use the search feature ther is so much info allready on the board
out of the two I would choose racksahck.net
but do a search
node9 07-15-2001, 08:29 PM cobaltracks = NO NO

Try the search function at the top of the board and type: cobaltracks
Bogdan 07-15-2001, 09:49 PM I do not think search button has anything to do with this.
What I'm trying to say is, when you are praising a service, you should at least back-up your statements with some facts. I mean, anyone could say their service is bad or good, not knowing nothing about the company, nor even being a customer of.
node9,
Simply saying good or bad, does not make it easy for potential customers to decide on a particular service.
Planet Z 07-15-2001, 11:09 PM I think what he meant was if you do a search you'll find other presumably unfavorable reviews of cobaltracks. Hence, his suggestion to stay away from them.

I figured you'd be smart enough to do a search on cobaltracks but whatever
I was a customer of theirs awhile back, they are nothing but trouble.

horoscopes2000 07-17-2001, 07:39 AM Take a look at 4webspace.com - I am with them, and they are excellent.
$0 setup, 100GB pm, $99 pm, excellent tech support.
XTStrike 07-17-2001, 09:05 AM COBALTRACK
Hi, I think I know where most people are comming from with these compalints, this is why i thought i would ask cobalt racks for a demonstration of their services recently, after a major hardware and network upgrade.
The demo proved to be an extremely good experience and based upon the RaQ i had with them a few months back which was going down due to network failure constantly i had a very nice experience with them.
I cant speak for support, but their network is EXTREMELY fast for such a cheap host, to the point where i got average download speeds of well in excess of 1MB/s on a RaQ
I wont do this often, but based on the attitude of the person i talk to there, the speed of their network and other issues i analysed.
I personally recommend CobaltRack based upon their attitude and network performance
I say you go to *****.....JUST KIDDING! LOL....they are the dung on the bottom of the bad web host heap..I like that......:D
Rackshack.net ...
Be careful to review their terms of service --- there are restrictions on the types of web sites you can host. Last I checked, you cannot run software archives, etc. on rackshack.net.
Also, note that the top machine is a Raq4i with an AMD 450Mhz chip and up to 512MB of RAM. I do not think this machine could handle 150GB a month of traffic unless it was soley static content.
I've only had minor connection issues with Rackshack. Most were resolved within a few hours or less. Tech support is hit and miss. I once got my machine rebooted manually within 15 minutes because a guy "happened to be at the co-lo". Other issues have taken days to get a correct answer.
I would recommend rackshack if:
you are confortable at administration of a linux server
-->reason: tech support is not great, you will have to be your own techie...
do not need to add many features to your basic web server
-->reason:the cobalt linux is basically redhat, but many things, e.g. libs, are not there or in different locations
need an inexpensive dedicated server solution
-->rackshack offers some of the best prices that I have seen. I was able to move my non-profit clients from shared solutions to dedicated servers providing better service and lower costs.
NewonNet 07-18-2001, 02:11 AM We have dedicated 4i with rackshack and are happy with them so far.
arrty 07-22-2001, 06:01 PM I have been with cobaltracks for about an year. They had some problems with thier network in the beginning but for a couple of months now its been running smooth. They are very friendly but I would not go with them you are they type who would like to play with the server without much experience. I say this because they won't help with any issues other than those concerning the control panel. If you install additional software then you are on your own however if you are lucky like I was at times they will help you get out of even the toughest of situations.
Summary: Friendly people too few support people to handle the number of clients they have.
