Hi,
Sure you all know the Netcraft webserver survey:

http://www.netcraft.com/survey/

It shows strong dominance of Apache since the second half of 1995. I now wonder what about Linux, were most of those Apache servers running on Linux OS already in 1995? (Linux 2.0, the first version supporting loadable kernel modules came out 1996 I think...)

Do we have some real webhosting gurus here on WHT, who could tell what OS they were running in 1995?

Actually I'm simply interested in figures about the growth of Linux user community, but Netcraft is the only stats I know. If you know another source of such stats, more on LInux rather than Apache, that would also be very interesting,...

Thanks

jks

Try looking at the Linux Counter project:

http://counter.li.org/

I signed up on the website as a Linux user in April 1995, so I guess I were running Linux in 1995 :-) (I started out with Slackware, running kernel 1.2.13 in 1994 as far as I recall)

The company I was working for was running BSDI, for a shared hosting farm. The company I had been work for previously was running their site on a VAX server, believe it or not :D
