I have customers who still use Network Solutions (for whatever reason) as their domain registrar. With all of the domain transfers I have to do, I find that about 50% of the time I'll submit the change and NEVER get an auto-reply from Net Sol. Like it just goes into a big black hole never to be seen again.
And then, to make matters worse, when I have to call up and get sideways with someone there, I feel like my call is transferred to Pakistan to someone who can barely speakada English.
Has anyone else had this experience, or is it just me?

Yes. This is normal and has been for life of Network Solutions. Anyone remember when it was just plain old "Internic"?

It's just you
and thousands of others.
Hopefully, you are transferring domains away from them, not to them.
You might want to encourage your customers to move, or let you move, their domains to another registrar. You can give them 2 good reasons.
1. They can save money. There are several good registars from almost a third of what NSI charges to even less.
2. It can save time (which is money) and trouble, even help prevent them from losing their domain name.
I can give you a practical example of the latter. I have a client who has one domain (the main one) remaining at NSI. Even though the authentication is by password rather than "mail from", faxed authorization is necessary to change his e-mail address. That became necessary when Excite (where he gets his mail), changed their system from username@mail.excite.com to username@excite.com
Even with me handling it for him, the change has not been effected because he is so busy that it is hard to take 60 seconds to photocopy his driver license and fax it to me so I can take care of the rest. Fortunately, the domain doesn't expire until December.
The rest of his domains are at 000domains.com as are those of all but one of my clients. It's a big improvement. I spent some time getting them all switched over a couple of months ago, even those that don't expire until next year or beyond. For some, all it took was including them in a Bcc notice to those who had problems I was handling for them. When some of my clients saw how inept NSI is (they included a non-working fax phone number on the fax instructions), they e-mailed me and asked me to transfer their domains for them. I did so gladly.
It can be that easy to convince a great many of them. Tell them to imagine not being able to make changes for similar reasons and losing control of their domain name. Of course, they could still renew it even if they couldn't make changes, and you don't have to mention that part, Let them think the worst and let you move them to a better and cheaper registrar.
Many people are unaware that there are other choices in registrars now. Remember that most don't keep up with Internet issues.
My experience with the phone help was pretty good. The gal who helped gave me an alternate phone number (which was no good either) and then a phone number that did the trick when I called back again.

Same problem here. We have a few domains that we wanted to transfer to another DNS server from NetSol ...and we're just not getting the form over email to change the DNS. We've got a form for one of the domains, but after 2 days :(

I sure am. I have rarely had a good experience with them, but when I have it's been unbelievable. It's either feast or famine...an absolute nightmare or an instant update. Go figure.
I have 2 domains I'm trying to transfer now, by fax. I sent the fax on Wednesday. Because of poor timing, both of these sites are down now, and have been since yesterday (someone cancelled the old host too quick). What a pain. These people are like a faux beaurocracy.

2 months, 3hrs of phone calls, and 4 faxes later, they have not updated my email address, so i could transfer my domain... blah.
