View Full Version : QMAIL - AGAIN - Catch All Account - Im Really Annoyed
XTStrike 07-14-2001, 09:27 AM To put it nicely, this is P155ing me off big time.
my question is sooo simple, yet i cant find a straight forward answer from anybody, here we go:
i have a domain, lets say "mydomain.com" i have a user "alger@mydomain.com"
sounds good?, now that works BUT i want EVERY single e-mail sent to "mydomain.com" to be forwarded to "alger@mydomain.com" automatically.
HOW IS IT DONE? step by step commands and file samples, cos im stupid !!
Chicken 07-14-2001, 12:25 PM Not sure this will help but...

dotsHost 07-14-2001, 01:49 PM xtsrike,
Create a file named ".qmail-default" in the domains directory
Then the file should read "&alger@mydomain.com"
The restart/reload qmail and it should work

OK, Its Official Im A Chicken (no pun intended) i installed qmailadmin and vchkpw from inter7, lol
thanx for the method though dots host, ill try it on my other server and tell you if it works
allera 07-14-2001, 10:27 PM How about installing qmailadmin? It's a web interface for managing all that qmail jazz. Piece of cake to install and use too.

Hrm, wonder how I missed that. Either way, I hope xtstrike has solved his problem. :)
XTStrike 07-15-2001, 06:44 AM thanx for your help people, and DAMN why id qmail so difficult to install ? i mean i want an e-mail solution, i have to go through the following:
1) qmail
2) additional tools
3) ezmlm
4) ezmlm-idx
5) qmail-pop3d
6) vchkpw / vpopmail
7) qmailadmin
8) autoresponder
9) crontab links
10) rc.d links
ARGH... give me Exchange Server any day !!
dotsHost 07-15-2001, 07:04 AM xstrike,
I presume you have it working?
I tried getting qmail to work without using vchkpw (vpopmail) and it is even worse!
If you have a qmailadmin, an easier way to make a catchall is to create an account called "default" and just forward it to the account required.
Cheers,
Paul
cperciva 07-15-2001, 07:07 AM xtstrike, it may seem more complicated, but it is actually simpler. With the qmail "family of tools" you install the tools you want, and don't install the ones you don't want. Each tool is mostly independant of the rest, and each tool is designed so that it doesn't have to trust the rest.
This provides a much smaller, faster, and *more secure* solution than a throw-everything-in-except-the-kitchen-sink solution like sendmail or MS sexchange.
(The same applies even more so to djbdns vs BIND, but that's a different story).
Anyway, now that you've worked out how to set everything up, how about you write up a qmail tutorial for everyone else to benefit from? ;)
dotsHost 07-15-2001, 07:12 AM I agree
:)
Compared to NT mail services, it is much easy to stop people relaying mail, it's much more stable, much smaller, and much easier to manage
Cheers,
Paul
XTStrike 07-16-2001, 06:49 PM Hi, thanx for all your replies, all very informative.
id agree, this package does tend to give you "exactly" what you want and nothing more, unless you install it, a very modular package.
Ive use vchkpw - wasnt reasy to install but ive managed it, its easier when you rtfm :)
Its working though now, and it does everything i want, and a little more, so im happy :)
well done qmail
i guess www.inter7.com also deserves a mention, since without their free software id have still been trying to solve it now !!, hehehe
