I like to move my new clients to a new dedicated server Is it possible that i make ns3.myowndomain.com and ns4.myowndomain.com with the new dedicated server IPs? This can probably be done by contacting my registrar to get the ns3 and ns4 to be allocated to the IP at my new server?
My Client will probably use ns3.myowndomain.com and ns4.myowndomain.com in order to use their domain on the new dedicated server.
While ns1 and ns2.myowndomain.com will be still in use for my old clients. Can?
Sorry that if my message is confusing. I'm still new to these dns stuffs.

I'm not exactly sure what are you asking... But there should be ns3 and ns4 as an option. It does -exist-...

The sort answer here is yes. You can create as many DNS servers as you want as long as you have an IP for each one. No two DNS servers can be on the same IP...
Having said that, I would not recommend putting more than one DNS server on the same box. What's the point??

I think he means running one DNS server on the box but pointing two names at it (ns3 and ns4).
Ya. kwimberl actually get my point. Thanks for that.
yeah - may be just 2
but I will like to know if 3 or 4 helps in any way ?
Aloha
say by freak luck both of your dns boxes go down that you have and your server is not running dns then it would still show
the other advantages from what I have understood is redundancy and especially for some clustered servers wher dns is not on the box and they run a lot of mail that has secondary and 3rd etc.. mail servers to make sure it is working
think of it like going out in the desert and carrying 3 spare tires (OK funky analogy)

Hey, sure u can do that, but how about u do this...
Run ns1 fron your old box then run ns2 from your new box, you are realy taking the point away when u run the primary nameserver and 2nd on the same box.
2nd nameserver will keep emails waying for the domains etc when the server with the 2nd nameserver goes down. It makes sence to me.
Its up to you. Just a idia :o)
