How many of you guys actually give each and individual their own smtp server?
do you guys recommend giving smtp to your client?
Any risk of being use it for spamming?
you must offer smtp to your clients otherwise some one will walk away from you. Also i see no harm in offering smtp to your clients.

They can SPAM from your server using sendmail or there own cgi programs. Business means risk. Take it where it is necessary and i think here it is. :o

My previous ISP (earthlink) allowed me only to use the earthlink SMTP server. I could not connect to port 25 on servers off the earthlink network.
That would not have been too bad, except for the minor problem that the earthlink SMTP servers were down a lot of the time I wanted to send mail.

If they can't decent mail servers they'll go away if they are a company that knows what domain hosting should/could be.
We offer more crap than I like to think about or is good for us, but it keeps the business customers around.
Pretty graphics do not a hosting company make.:)

I have it setup where they have to check their email before sending through the server. That pretty much does away with the open relay problem

i think people do not like this. You know nobody have too much time. and people who reply to 100's of email may just give up :D

No, this is a typical measure to keep people from sending out anything they please through an open hole in your server. POP Auth is quite common and quite welcome, and the authentication lasts anywhere from 15-30 minutes, depending on how it's set up. If you're a host, then you should know about this.

Please re-think this. You DON'T want to leave an open spam relay on your server, because it WILL be found and exploited.
