Hi folks!
I'm looking for a webhost for a site that I have nearly completed work on. The company would need to provide AT LEAST 20gb bandwidth per month, 50mb+ of space, pop email accounts (smtp a bonus) and be able to use multiple domains for the same account. We have .com and .co.uk versions of our site so the last point is a must.

Also, they would need to provide PHP/MySQL support with at least 2 MySQL databases. Support for Perl and PHP's GD Image Library would be a real plus point.

I've searched and searched but can't find anyone that has these features AND the GD library. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks in advance and I look forward to becoming a regular poster on these boards! ;)

May I ask what kind of site it is?

Hey KMx, welcome to WHT! One other thing you can do (if you don't find yourself getting suggestions for a host), is to think up a feature list (most of that you seem to have), and start a thread in the Advertising/Offers Forum (Web Hosting), and hosts who are members here will be able to bid and make you offers. We encourage you to search for information about any host you are interested in as a result of that thread, (and post if needed).

Good luck and welcome again...

Of course you can Eagle!

It's going to be a gaming news site ("not another one....groan!" you all cry). It'll use PHP and MySQL as much as possible so that the writers can update from wherever they are. Also, we'll have a free press release section, where gaming related companies can get some free exposure.

We're aiming for a more "professional" look, a bit like FGNOnline.com (an excellent site, in my opinion). The difference is that we will cover ALL the news, rather than just the biggest stories of the day.

Also (again), we'll have the latest gaming vacancies listed, so that companies can advertise for staff. I'm pretty sure that this will be free until we get off the ground visitor wise, at which point we'll charge a nominal fee for listings.

That's just the start really! More sections are born every day but I'm trying to keep it as minimal as possible due to the fact that I can't afford to pay a full staff (yet! :D )

Would people say that $175.00 per month was the norm for the features that I asked for?

Thanks for your interest all,

Do you intend to have files available if so, you'll need more than 50MB's of space, trust me, I know:)

$175 a month? You could get your own server for that... unless you meant per year?

I highly doubt that you will use 20 GB's of bandwidth until your site is established so I'd personally recommend going with a webhost where you can add more bandwidth (or upgrade to another hosting plan) as your site becomes more popular. It would be a good way to save money. :)

Gaming sites are notorious for bandwidth consumption so definitely be ready to shell out some extra dough for it, or be able to upgrade relatively inexpensively. Make sure you read the fine print and monitor your b/w frequently.

Hi again all,
I used to run the UK Dreamcast site DCGuide.co.uk and we ran up to about 12gb of bandwidth per month.

That said, I've/we've learned a lot since then with regards to image optimization, tidy code etc etc and the new site is coming along great. Lean and mean ( I hope :D )

Had some great offers from this post and thanks everyone for giving me a starting point or two.

I'll be checking these forums regularly to see what's goin' on, so I hope I can help you all out someday.

Thanks again,
