Does anyone know if OC12Host and Ventures Online are related in any way? I have a strong suspicion that OC12Host is a reseller, or have a dedicated server with VO. OC12Host seem to offer watered-down (type of features, not quality) versions of VO packages. However I have some doubts about my suspicion because OC12Host offers more POP3 accounts and sub-domains than the corresponding VO package. I just want to avoid the middleman.

As they offer a reseller service they can not be a reseller for VO. And you can do a tracert which will show where their servers are.
BTW, what's wrong with beeing a reseller?

I did a trace & it seems to me that your suspicions are true. By the way, i check out their pricing and i'm just curious why not just sign up with VO since their pricing is so much more cheaper

I'll just say that I don't think you can make this type of blanket statement. Resellers sometimes offer reseller plans and from what I can tell, besides just offering the space up for resale, this is a feature that can be enabled in WHM/Cpanel (resellers being able to offer reseller accounts).

I'm not sayig that they are or are not resellers of VO or any other host, just that I've seen resellers offering reseller accounts before, so this wouldn't be the first time, if it were true.

Hi Chicken,
This is Not an option in the cpanel for resellers. The host that owns the machine would have to enable a resellers reseller,,, it is not in the resellers manager area unless they have full root access, and,, we all no better than doing that.

<<MOD NOTE: That's what I meant, but you probably said it better :D>>

As for ventures online, they are a host. I don't have a clue about oc12 through. They both trace to verio server house. The look like a host... not a reseller.

Thanks for all the input!

There is nothing wrong with being a reseller. In fact I don't mind paying a few extra bucks and stay with OC12Host. They offer excellent tech support, as opposed to my old host (Interliant). OC12Host is quick to respond (15 minute avg.), very informative, and their willingness to help is truly impressive.

Anyway, I didn't sign up with VO because I found them (thanks to this forum) after I setup an account with OC12Host. I visited close to a thousand hosts but somehow missed the gem.

Hello
If OC12 have a aserver with VO it does not make them a reseller.

Firstly, the server might well be OC12's property, sent on colocation. Even if it is leased the server admin is OC12 and not VO.

We have servers at VO, VDI and 2 other Datacenters.
Some are owned by us and colocated. Most are leased.
I don't think any of this makes us a reseller.
It just depends on how you want to structure your business, whether you decide to lease or own.

I've been with OC12 since June 2000, and overall I've been really pleased with them. They moved off of the Alabanza network a couple of months ago, which caused a few problems (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=10641) while I had accounts on two servers at the same time, but now that they're on the Verio network things have been great.

I wasn't aware of the connection between VO and OC12, although I have seen my IP address resolve to ip.vosn.net. Now I know what that means! :D
