View Full Version : Anyone had a BAD experience with 2For1Host?
MartialArts 06-12-2003, 11:11 AM I just want to prove my point that I wasn't the only one that got ripped off by bad service from 2for1host. So if you had a bad experience, post your story here. I don't believe they should be in business for having the kind of support they do and the aweful hostng service..
dftchris 06-14-2003, 03:30 PM I am in the process of a bad experience with them. I had my site hosted with superuser.net. It was great ad gave me no problems, but there was no customer support. So I switched to 2for1host. I took advantage of the free domain name and als had my other domain point to the site. Three days later I ave no evidence of the new site even being registered. My old domain gets to the site, but everything I installed through the control panel(invision) points to the new domain and doesn't work. The server load is at an average of 3-7. On my old host I never saw it above 1. It was always at like .3, so this doesn't look good. When I signed up it said no risk 30 day money back guarantee. I asked for my money back because I was not happy with the service. The response I got from Mr. Brisson was "Your complaints to say the least are unfounded and you have provided no reasonable argument. A refund will not be extended based on this." So what are they guaranteeing?

Please take your spam somewhere else. When you sign up for a forum at least read the rules. This is the second thread you done this in.
CrazyTech 06-14-2003, 03:45 PM Geez I am so sick of spam, people can't follow common sense rules.

I think I speak for us all when I say...
CrazyTech 06-14-2003, 03:55 PM Well good, he got banned. Good job mods! :)
dftchris 06-16-2003, 12:52 AM I ran a trial server check on netmechanic.com, which I know i sholud done before but I had spent the day looking for hosts and was frustrated. Well the results weren't good.

Ever since I asked for a refund, not only was I denied my money back, but I have lost all customer support. No one will reply to me at all. The server load is usually anywhere from 3-7. I've never seen it below 1. I am young and broke so that money I spent for that host is all I have right now so I need it back to get a new one. It is a website for my band. Does anyone know if someone from 2for1host checks this board?[QUOTE]
simonclark 06-16-2003, 03:53 AM I used to work for them & somebody else on this forum used to but one day they just kicked everybody out. No warning, No reason.
W1H - Lee 06-16-2003, 04:31 AM I was with 2for1host prior to going dedicated, atrocious service and uptime, theykept claiming a virus was attacking their system amongst other things.
Every time you went into WHM there were options missing all the time and they had to keep resetting the reseller account.
I got really fed up when the last time it happened they e-mailed me to say there were more server problems over a further week I could not get access to the account.
Absolutely avoid them at all costs, I cancelled within the 30 day money back guarantee and Brisson ignored my repeated e-mails for a refund, I have passed the details to my card company for a refund.
Water 06-16-2003, 04:45 AM Is there any organization out there that puts a list of all these bad hosts with letters from their customers they screwed. I as a webhosting provider thinks this shouldn't be allowed and everyone that trys to signup with them is warned...and hopefully they will get their act together to fail as a company.
dftchris & L Wisener Goodluck with your money back guarantee
dftchris 06-16-2003, 03:15 PM Thanks. Luckily I only paid for 3 months in advance. I am hopefully goingto start working for my uncles moving and storage company loading trucks. He is also going to pay me almost 1 grand to build a website for him. He wanted me to a while ago but I didn't know as much then, he had paid another guy like 800 to do it and I looked at it. It was all on one page and was built with geocities. So hopefully I will be able to afford a more trustworthy host. I used a debit card to pay, do chargebacks work the same on debit? Thanks - Chris
dftchris 06-16-2003, 03:26 PM If I don't get my money back I could just throw together a quick site for people to submit bad hosts to.
I noticed ever since I requested a refund the live support on the main page has always been offline, prior to that it had always been online...weird. I guess I signed up right when there service started to really go downhill.
dftchris 06-16-2003, 04:37 PM I have found that I am on a server that is not what was advertised. I was told I would be one a dual P4 system with two GB of ram. Through SSH it says I only have 506024K of available memory. And it is almost all used. In the server status part of Cpanel the server load says for example 0.64 (1 cpu). Which Is btw the lowest I have seen it. Shouldn't it say 2 cpu on a dual P4 system? I did get a response back. I told them that I am avery reasonable person and if I was mistakenly put on the wrong server than I would withdrawl my statements on this board if they moved me to the right server with good server loads. They know about this thread and in warning to those complaining here is a quote. "...it has come to our understanding that you have posted libelous allegations along with others on a forum titled web hosting talk. As such, we will be in contact with our attorneys to take action against this as it is not only unfounded, but against our policies." I don't think they will get very far with that and I think it is a bluff but just letting you guy know.
Cirtex 06-16-2003, 04:43 PM dftchris, you could've made all these 3 posts into 1 :D
anyways, 506024K of memory means their server probably has only 512mb RAM, which is enough(decent) but false advertisement is always bad.
as for server load, If its a Duel Xeon P4 then it should say 4 CPUs (hyperthreading), and 0.64 load isnt that bad, in my opinion, as long as the server load is under 1.0 its doing good, for a Duel Xeon, anything under 2.0-2.5 is ok :D
dftchris 06-16-2003, 05:12 PM Yea haha I know I edited one of them a few times and then I forgot. So a dual P4 would actually be 4 cpus? Then thats really false advertisting. But like I said .64 is the lowest I've see it. It is now rising back to it "norm". It is now at 1.02. The lowest constant load I've seen is around 1.5 and on average when I check it it is anywhere from 3 all the way up to 7. If tihs was really a dual cpu system then yea higher loads would be alright I think, but it shows it as a one cpu system, so I don't know. I know pretty much nothing about having more than 1 cpu. "2.4 GHz dual P4 w/ 2 GB SDRAM. RAID." Those are the specs I was given. This is all a shame because these guys ave the opportunity in my opinion to be a good host. Until you request a refund their customer support is good. If only they would put people on the right server. And on the server I am on they could upgrade ram fairly cheaply and have much better stability. They are either overselling this server(with the prices that makes sense), or there is a bad script running somewhere. I am only 17. I've always wanted to have my own business of some sort and I think renting dedicated servers from reputable places and starting a small hosting company would be a fun thing to do. Maybe I am weird but I ave fun helping people out and setting stuff up like that. I wouldn't be able to do 24/7 support or have a large staff but that'd keep my prices low. I saw a deal on the dedicated host ad forum that for a certain price the place that was selling and hosting the dedicated servers would offer supprt direct to my customers when I couldn't. That was a great deal, but with so many hosts getting bad reputations I don't think a host ran by a 17 year old would be very popular. I think my next host after I work things out with 2for1host will be a small reseller account somewhere. I need a host for my uncles trucking company. I need to read up a lot more on Unix and hosting on unix before I even think about going dedicated yet though:topic:
BTW: How likely would it be that they actually could make a good case in court because of my statements? I was only stating facts.
dftchris 06-17-2003, 12:31 AM UPDATE: I have had more contact with Essene in the lasts few hours. The latest update I have recieved is that my emails have been forwarded to the CEO of the company, which is Erik I assume. So I will see what he says and keep you guys updated. Thanks -- Chris
TheWeaverofD 06-17-2003, 05:12 PM I know that this is almost a second post of roughly the same, but it fits into this thread very well...
We've been with 2for1 for a while, too, had more downtime in 2 months than in 3 years with a different provider before, server loads were very high, support mails were not answered after a while, telephone disconnected (when you called you only got machine anyway), the online support never online...
So we decided to pull the plug, because if we could not rely on our site up and all, it made no sense, so now we moved on to lunarpages.com and so far are very satisfied with how things are going...
So you are not alone, MartialArts.
Oh, and the forum still is down? Been so for I don't know how many weeks...
They also promised us a lot, about uptime and all of that and we signed up for two years, but after not even two months we left, because it was getting ridiculous. The money is gone as they have a 30 day money back guarantee, but they still owe us some money anyway as my wife had been working for them as live support for a while, never received ANY answer to those mails anymore, so... Or rather no answers to ANY mails whatsoever...
Just last week I received a weird mail, where they said something about a last reminder and an invoice that would be debited to my CC, just it looked a lot like a template, where all the placeholders where still in, submitted a ticket, no reaction whatsoever...
Like said before, we had more troubles in those 2 months than before in 3 years and as we have a music webzine, which is updated daily, with readers all over the world, any downtime is poison. So we pulled the plug and moved completely to lunarpages, of course only after asking many, many questions, basically about everything that went wront with 2for1, because it was a frustrating and expensive experience...
And those money back guarantees, they always will find a way around them by claiming that whichever "claims" you have are invalid or insufficient or whatever...
dftchris 06-18-2003, 01:55 PM I have not gotten a reply to the emails that were supposedly forwarded to the ceo erik. So I'm basically done with them. I guess I get a gig of storage space for the next three months.

all erik cares about is himself. he even cheated on his wife and had his childrens granparents look after the kids while he scammed people and went on lavalife and match.com to find women that were attracted to his very weird and overweight self
if your looking for quality and inexpensive hosting go with a shared plan at site5. they might not be AS cheap as 2for1 but rest assure they are a legit company
bizness 08-20-2003, 02:24 PM well, on a good note, Middle School and High School is coming up... so we should see allot of these false hosts drop like flies until next summer when they ask for dady's CCard and get a cheap server claiming to be G_Ds (sorry, im jewish and THE!! word has to be censored)
