One gives a discount for 1U racks, so I use penguincomputing and I am very happy with there servers. www.penguincomputing.com The other does not care what kind of box I use, so I just make one out of a regular tower. Both work fine and I use Redhat 6.2/Apache Good Luck allera 07-13-2001, 11:50 PM Our web server is a Dell PowerEdge 1400 (not SC). The 1400's aren't available anymore, I don't think. It's a tower machine. I'd highly recommend Dell because they always have deals going on and they have nice support packages (that are usually included in the price of a server). Purchase your machine over the phone and it ships the next day or day after. Purchase it online and it may take a few more days to ship. Also, purchasing over the phone sometimes gets you a cheaper price than what the online system gives you. Just my experiences anyway. :) bbrader 07-14-2001, 12:27 AM Rack Saver - the name says it all. would you buy a Car Saver? 3 Hardware failures out of like 8 machines. Crystal PC - Expensive, 2 hardware failures out of 4 machines. Penguin Computing - Decent price, no problems so far. -Brendan davidb 07-14-2001, 02:21 AM I have compaq prolaint 5500's. One rack and one tower, I like them, but I think that model is not made anymore No hardware failure, all works good, the only problem is that hard drives and memory cost an arm and a leg. Thank GOD for ebay mlovick 07-14-2001, 03:52 AM We use Cobalts - Dells - Generic (e.g. self made) and Fujitsu siemens. The Fujitsu Siemens are fantastic boxes - a bit difficult to install the OS but they run like a ROCKET :) Honu 07-14-2001, 05:40 PM Aloha a couple virtual accounts No idea other dedicated Cobalt RaQ4 no probs yet Dell AppServer no problems yet future another Del AppServer Cephren 07-14-2001, 09:44 PM At Cephren, cephrenhosting.com, we've been using a range of Dell Poweredge 1550, 2550, 4400, 6540 for some time now and I would definately say these are one of the most reliable server's my company has come across for especially for Windows 2000 Advance Hosting. The Poweredge 4400 has been working especially well as Web servers as ours all come in Dual Xeon 733 Processors. Handles almost everything...... For our Unix/Linux Hosting, we use Sun Cobalt RaQ4i, 4rs and we used to have XTR's until they were recalled. We also use Dell Power.App Servers.....which are great. Id highly recommend the Dell Power App servers. Good price, good reliability. Cephren <<EDIT>> <<MOD NOTE:>> You may not list URLs in the main body of the post.
