I've got a dedicated box with Win2k3 running on it. I'm also running MS DNS and MailEnable. For some reason, DNSReport is saying for the mail server host name that

"aaaaa.com claims to be host bbbbb.com"

The really strange thing is that bbbbb.com is some domain name that is not on my server or associated with me.

I've checked the hostname and it seems correct. The aaaaa.com domain name is the same name as the nameserver (ns1.aaaaa.com). I have checked the zone records in the DNS on the machine, and can't find the bbbbb.com name anywhere.

So the question is, where could bbbbb.com be that my server is not correctly reporting that the MX record is aaaaa.com ?

Thanks!

sounds like the reverse dns for the IP is set to bbbbb.com perhaps?

Problem solved... after a lot more investigating and another set of eyes, it turned out that somehow the smtp local domain settings in MailEnable got changed to bbbbb.com .

Oh well - sometimes it just helps to throw it out there and then the answer will come one way or another. Thanks i am a for the suggestion though!
