Hi,

For a forum with 60 users online at the same time, the server load average is around 1.00. When there are about 110 people online, the load average is about 6-7.

Do you guys think the high load is bacause of more people are online at the forum, or just the other site was using too much resources?

Thanks.

Is this the same forum, or a different one? Same server, or different? You'll need to toss the server specs into the equation when examining things like this.

I think though the specs are important, those load numbers are high.

Regardless off the server specs if you are at 6-7, you are looking at a high load on the server.

It's high, yes, but high loads are relative to whatever is running under the engine. A load of 6 on a single processor is a lot different than the same load on a dual processor machine.

A load of 6 on a dual processor would still also be high.

Load is balanced based on your specs, so as you upgrade your load should go down.

If you have a load of 6 on a single processor, if you take the same thing running and put it on a dual processor the load % should drop.

2 users, load average: 5.46, 5.09, 4.19
561 processes: 558 sleeping, 2 running, 0 zombie, 1 stopped
CPU states: 63.4% user, 23.5% system, 0.0% nice, 12.9% idle
Mem: 1036352K av, 1032916K used, 3436K free, 1010072K shrd, 21000K buff
Swap: 265032K av, 259212K used, 5820K free 38824K cached

The forum has 80 users online now and I got the above numbers. But several days ago, when there are about 50-80 people on line at the same time, the load average is around 1.2 something.

The same server, same forum, almost the same time frame. Do you think there's another site on the server that use more resources or something's wrong with the forum?

Thanks.
