View Full Version : Way to speed check a connection?

We are currently having "issues" with our ISP, and need a way to accurately speed check a wireless connection. We've been using the speedchecks at DSLreports.com, but our ISP (Clearwire) is claiming they are inaccurate. What I'd like is a few different ones that I can use, so as to throw a list of dif. sources to prove that their "not effected by weather or distance" connection is pure crap. We'd go DSL but Verizion has its head up their jeffries tube, and a T1 is currently out of our budgetal reach for now. ><

Danke. :)

Mmm... I don't know if cnet's speed check works quite as well since you're only downloading a 100k file... I think uploading then downloading a file through ftp might work a little better, or speedtest.net might work also... (I would say poopz.com, but it's not there I think now.. ^^;;)

Here's the tester that I use:

http://www.pcpitstop.com/internet/default.asp

It clocks my DSL link at 1,230kbits/sec

The 200kB text block size may be too small to get a good reading with the high-speed of your connection. I like to pick the text block size to be large enough so that the test runs for at least 30 seconds. That gives a better longer-term average on the speed.

You can have a complete test at the following site to check the speed of your connection

www.bandwidthplace.com
www.testmyspeed.com

I just used three of these testing sites and got three wildly different results

Ironically the site testing site here in the UK gave me the lowest throughput.

Looks like they may be a bit untrustworthy.

I got 97.1 on my cable connection in India using MSN.

There was a more interesting result I got when I clicked the back button on the browser. Now the speed was shown to be 'infinity' ;)

Cheers,

2049k in Canada? Doesnt that convert to only 1200k US?

Oh wait, this is speed, not cash. :D

either way, ya still doing warp 10 compared to my 10 speed. ;)
