This may be covered ground already, and please don't take this personally... but, I wouldn't learn Delphi. Understand this -- I love the language. I've used Delphi for maybe 10 years, since version 1, and think it's a great language and wonderful interface. However, there's no denying the influence Microsoft has on this industry and if you are to learn a new language, I would stress getting a good ASP.NET book and installing the Microsoft .NET v1.1 framework on your PC, get Microsoft's ASP.NET Matrix editor, all of which is free, and learn that. Just open the paper -- how many job ads ask for Delphi? How many for .NET? (Not like there are a lot of jobs, but you get the idea). If I were you (and I'm not, I know), I'd get XP Pro on my computer, install mySQL and all the above I mentioned, all for free, and build a simple rolodex application or something like that to start.

Delphi does include a .net compiler in the newest version...

The personal edition is on the front of this months PCPRO magazine in the UK this month. I don't think they have it avaliable for download anywhere though.

Don't forget that the personal edition is not allowed to be used for comercial applications :stickout:
