I was having alook through Chickens thread and alot of the companys that are listed are no longer there!
Alot of down sites.

Not think it should be deleted and started again?

Yeah, i noticed the same. Almost 1/3 of the URL's return a 404 :o

No way to edit current listings for updates?

I personally would not want to go through all the posts on that thread and then check and if out of date edit/amend them.
So i really dont think a moderator would want to either, then again... there are some strange people in the world :]
Chicken could well suprise me :]

I think deleting the thread and then starting again would be a good way to do it.

why not reset it if you wil every month as things change so fast etc...

Im not even on the old one..
I would go on the new one and im not really fussed about having a high ranking on it, just i think its out of date since alot of the URL's are not working..
People.. as in visitors may not want to host with a host on the board because of this, thinking we will all do a runner and this really supports it.
Im probly thinking too much into things again... yes i think i am, but no doubt someone will think it, because i have!

No you cant start your own since Chickens is sticky at the top of the ads forums :]

Personally, I think that just like the last time it would become useless pretty quickly. Once the listing got beyond 3 or 4 pages, it wasn't worth looking in; and that only took a few days.

I'm not trying to talk anyone out of using it who wants to, because it really makes no difference to me, just saying I see little value in that thread personally.

Maybe one of the mods could pick through the list and weed out the bad links. Also, I'm sure a few volunteers would pop up for this.

Personal opinion, because it's not my list as such (it was Chicken's idea) : of the no. of hosts in there I can probably see about 5% of hosts who no longer exist. I guess some of us could spend a bit of time going through the list but it would be particularly time-consuming and if you had other better things to do (particularly me), I wouldn't blame you for not going through it.

You are welcome to create another host list if you're so inclined, but there's no guarantee we'll sticky it up, and there's no guarantee hosts will want to post a 2nd time.

I say just start a new thread..... it'll be easier....

Hmm.. there is a better way...

Why doesn't someone host a small DB of hosts rather than just shoving them on a thread... it'd be a hell of a lot more efficient.

The only thing to make it really work you'd have to require a field with their WHT username. Oh and a link to the "search" function on the board so that users could instantly look up stuff about the host in question...

Just a thought but it's gotta be better than the current system.

I have decied to build a ISP Host List Directory, it is real simple and it's free for anyone to use.

You can either chooese which company you are in then put these information:

1) Company Name
2) Company URL
3) Information about company (services etc)

It's much easier this system will be reviewed every week or two to make sure the website is active rather than being error 404's!
