I posted this in another forums, but apparently it was wrong, so here it is:

Hi, I'm new here. I'll introduce myself briefly. My name is James Mulvany, I've just turned 16 years old and I live in Surrey, UK, and I've just started hosting!

I've practically finished my site now, I've got my reseller package. All i'm waiting for now is the PHP order script to be completed, which someone is kindly doing for me.

My site is: www.hostlab.co.uk - What do you think - there isn't much there yet, and I plan to launch next week, like the design?

Any tips. I'm thinking about advertising. How should I go about operating this business, getting customers etc...?

If you want to contact me you can add me on the following, would be great to have some advice from a guru or two:

MSN messenger - support[at]hostlab.co.uk
Yahoo messenger - hostlab_uk
ICQ messenger- 309898283

:dunce:Just for the addicts who are into servers and stuff, here are the specs...

~ 1 GB (1024mb) of FAST server memory
~ 80 GB UDMA 100 hard drive
~ 100 Mbit Ethernet Adapter

~ Server grade chipset

The server is connected via 4 Verizon Gigabit line, as well as 7 other gigabit lines from MFN, Williams, Allegiance and Cogent with additional OC3 and DS3 lines from Savvis and Eli. The server is wired into an uninterruptible power supply, as well as connected to a backup generator. The servers are monitored constantly 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year from 4 key geographic locations to ensure maximum uptime.

Cheers

Talk about fussy

I'm asking for advice on how to run it mainly, but if you like look at the site.
At the end of the day its the same people posting, and it doesn't really matter which forum its in...

Well it may matter to the mods.

With that same outlook, it should be okay for someone to post a dedicated hosting question in the shared hosting forum? I mean it's the same people replying at the end of the day, right?

Without order, you have chaos.

Although I can see your point, it still stands to reason, that there is a forum intended for advice on running a hosting business, and a seperate forum meant for getting reviews of your website.

Why don't you just read the forum rules and figure out the proper place to post. You're not doing yourself any favors by coming here and making your first thread an argumentitive one.

A simple clean site. Very low bandwidth, though.

One daft thing - you have right-click disabled. When I visit a site, I like to open new windows for the different menu options. Anyone else like me is going to be quickly put off by that design gimmick. No logic in doing that - useless javascript.

Just thought I would point out that you can hold the shift key and click on the link, and it will open in a new window. :D

A few things ...

1. no contact name & address on your contact page - so in breach of the distance selling laws

2. IANAL but I do know, being 16 you are not able to sign binding legal documents, so your contract/terms is probably a waste of time ...

3. get a parent to open business account as people are *unlikely* to post chqs payabel to 'James Mulvany'

The sites clean, quick and sharp, which is good, the blue "banner" at the bottom is much bigger than it needs to be though

I *personally* find centered text of multiple/varied line lengths difficult to read, the support page suffers from this

Overall though I think it's *amazing* that you started a business and *then* want to find out how to run it and get customers - *probably* the wrong way round IMHO ...

....I think you splled "copyright" at the bottom "copywrite"....unless that's the British way....

where it says 'All Packages Include'

i have no idea what that blue thing is, looks out of place.

your banner is too small compared to the rest of your site
