View Full Version : McHost - comments please
WebSnail.net 07-12-2001, 07:14 AM Hi,
I've run a search on McHost and come up with little comment either way as yet... Given that I'm considering a hosting contract with them I'm curious for any third party comments on their service, support, etc...
Thanks in advance.
TechnoHosts 07-12-2001, 09:04 AM they're pretty new so you probably wont find too many comments on them. Marc is a nice guy, so I suggest you give it a try;)

Marc is a very nice guy whos working really hard to build the company and is one of the firt ppl on the board to help out :D
WebSnail.net 07-12-2001, 10:02 AM Ok, that's about the response I figured I'd get...
Thanks peeps... I got the same really good impression myself when we had a game of email question/answer ping-pong :)
Gotta say I got a good gut feel and you've helped confirm that... I'll actually be on a 2 week trial as it is so I can see for myself.
Fingers crossed... 500th time lucky
edude 07-12-2001, 01:34 PM Well 'kiwi' from mchosts is very helpful on this board as Lacey and Technohosts have already said. I reccomend you to signup with him, he cares alot for the well-being of his customers and is a great person :)

Peeps 07-12-2001, 01:45 PM This is one of the reasons this forum has problems. Ask a question, get responses from three different hosts about another. "Oh, so-and-so is just such a nice person, you should try them." That tells someone nothing about the quality of service that the host has. Isn't there some sort of rule about plugging hosts you haven't actually used?
edude 07-12-2001, 02:01 PM Hmm your forgetting something, the majority of people on this board are HOSTS. We are just reccomending him according to what we have seen. This board was designed for hosts after all...

Actually peeps. I was aware that McHost is a new(ish) company so I wasn't sure what kind of feedback I would get in terms of whether or not the service is any good.
The comments on the general attitude of a service provider are a major help though and I'll keep them in mind. It helps to know that generally Marc is respected so I'm more comfortable with trying a new service.
I do take your point though re: commenting about services you haven't tried yourself. And hopefully once I've tried them for an extended period I'll be able to report back positively.
;)

Peeps 07-12-2001, 02:14 PM Hostexp, I remember a time when this forum was more for users and not hosts. Times change, and now it appears that it's just a trolling ground for hosts. My mistake.
Martin, I sincerely hope you'll be able to report something good. It would be a nice change of pace from what has become the norm around here.

Well, I'm a user. I am not a host and not very knowledgeable about the whole webhosting environement. Except from a consumer's view.
All I can say to you, as an interested spectator of this board is, that I have to agree with Hostexp . I have never heard anything bad about Kiwi and have found him to be very helpfull in trying to find an answer for people's questions. I find nothing wrong with one host reccommending another. In fact, I find it rather reassuring. Would you rather a host said, "He's not right for you; let me host you!"? OOO all the good fight scenes we could get out of hosts acting like that. The fact that one host says something good about another host is :D
Marc doesn't host me or anyone I know. But, from what I've read around this board, I would reccomend him in an instant.
:D

Well, what can i say. On one side i do not want to 'influence' the forum members' comments, and on the other side i cannot simply 'ignore' the post :D
Anyways, in reply to the comment that Peeps posted: It is not all about one host recommending another host - you will find many threads about members that are hosts that are warning non-host members about other hosts. I know, his sentence was confusing. ;)

Can't say I blame you there Marc :)
To Peeps:
Actually I think you'll find that there are a lot of users who use the forum as well as the heap of hosts that are about... There are also grey areas in between with people like myself taking up reseller packages for the plain and simple reason that it offers more control over clients web sites. Given that most of my clients WANT me to manage them their sites, that helps me centralise everything and actually get something for all the adhoc support I was originally providing.
I have had some particularly bad experiences :eek3: this past 6 months or so and I'm almost ready to share some of them but like some of the others have said... I'd rather have hosts complimenting and recommending other hosts than trying to compete for the business.. I know how my decision-making works on stuff like that.
The other thing worth remembering is that the hosting market is wide and diverse with many niches to be had. Different hosts server different client experience levels, locations, CPU needs, etc... so competition is probably a lot lower than you might think ;)
