Giaguara 06-06-2003, 12:49 PM Which is the OS of your main computer (desktop, laptop, whatever you use mostly)? :) volize 06-06-2003, 12:53 PM XP all the way... Darktwist 06-06-2003, 01:05 PM At the moment I am using Windows 2000 (with SP3). I am planning to buy new faster PC and it will have Windows XP Pro installed (with classic themes, not ugly blue theme). SimonMc 06-06-2003, 01:22 PM XP sp1 Plus Office XP Simon Karlof 06-06-2003, 01:41 PM XP Home secludo 06-06-2003, 02:02 PM Slackware Linux. Giaguara 06-06-2003, 02:48 PM So so far i'm the only with OS X.. and i have only OS X 10.2, as i sold my peecee away in december. it had Redhat (sometimes also Mandrake) and some Windows that i never used. Too lazy to install Linux to my machine, as i can anyway use the freebsd version programs instantly, and like compiling the Unix programs from source... :D genlee 06-06-2003, 05:31 PM gentoo secludo 06-06-2003, 05:35 PM Originally posted by Giaguara Too lazy to install Linux to my machine, as i can anyway use the freebsd version programs instantly, and like compiling the Unix programs from source... :D Who says you can't compile from source in Linux? ub3r 06-06-2003, 05:35 PM i alternate between windows xp pro, and redhat 9 . More xp though Joe Bonanno 06-06-2003, 05:59 PM I voted OS X also. I have a Suse 8.2 machine sitting 3 feet from my OS X machine and I can hardly ever find a reason to turn it on. The single thing that puts OS X ahead of linux for me is not Office or Games, but the web browsers. Camino and OmniWeb are the purest form of eye candy I have every seen. Not only beautiful, but really reduce eye strain when you spend a lot of time surfing. Please. I am not trying to convert anyone. I don't want anyone to switch to the Mac. Everytime there's a new virus attacking Windows boxes I am happy again that I benefit from security through obscurity. ChrisTech 06-06-2003, 06:00 PM 2k all the way. (Me, My Mom, My Dad, My gf, all 2k) From the systems I have seen with XP on them, like this one I am using at this moment at work, just plain sucks. IE on this box is always crashing (never have more than 4 windows open at once, or it will crash) I have all skins turned off and everything, and its still dog slow. Cirtex 06-06-2003, 06:01 PM XP Rocks!!! :D fromage 06-06-2003, 06:22 PM Just reformated...XP Pro w/ Gentoo backup. DosEvil 06-06-2003, 06:26 PM Windows ME. Cirtex 06-06-2003, 06:27 PM XP Office rocks, though i have XP Home :D Giaguara 06-06-2003, 09:54 PM Originally posted by Joe Bonanno The single thing that puts OS X ahead of linux for me is not Office or Games, but the web browsers. I used Chimera / Camino untill the v.71 of Safari leaked out, and i now mainly use that for browsing (then Camino, links, IE). Oh - I like to see the diversity of the OSs you guys have here. :D :D viGeek 06-07-2003, 03:47 AM Windows 2k NTFS sp3. I have Windows XP Sp1 on my other machine. And FreeBSD 4.5 on another rig. stu17 06-07-2003, 07:30 AM Windows ME, Rocks!! :) Tom|420 06-07-2003, 08:55 AM XP for now... I plan to have RH as the only OS on my new machine when I have it in a few weeks (mayby I will still have XP as a 2nd OS, not sure yet, will decide when I see if there are too much tasks that I'm unable to do with Linux... actually I never been using Linux on the desktop yet, only as a server) Joe Bonanno 06-07-2003, 01:03 PM Originally posted by Giaguara Do you like Safari? Safari will be great, but I am dependent on the Keychain access that Camino provides so well. I don't think Safari supports it now, and if it does it's probably a hack. Remember that Safari is in beta. parmeet 06-07-2003, 01:13 PM win xp nelson 06-07-2003, 04:21 PM Computer 1- OSX (my favorite) But I also have Virtual PC with XP home. Computer 2- WinXP Home. I just do not use it much. Computer 3-Dual boot with RedHat9 and Lindows. (Mostly just to play with, hardly ever gets used.) On a side note Safari is a great browser for OSX. But I also use Opera sometimes. 3nom 06-07-2003, 04:22 PM Gotta go with xp but main info is not on a windows machine :) Genesis-X 06-07-2003, 06:37 PM Windows 2000 Proffessional SP3 The Dude 06-07-2003, 09:15 PM WIN 98 all the way!!!!! I think win98 is the best os you can get,no need 2 upgrade....Have everything in 98... I have heard alot of peeps have trobule with XP,dunno to much about ne other OS,but i like 98 just fine..... I like the look, the way it runs,etc....... The Dude :) rooshine 06-07-2003, 09:30 PM I use Red Hat on my primary PC, and can't say enough good things about Linux. I use a combination of a GUI and the command line, and I love having the flexibility and power this offers. If I was a gamer, I'd probably have XP installed on another computer or partition. But I am afraid of games, as I know I'd become addicted, and so I am sort of glad most games aren't available for *nix yet. fromage 06-07-2003, 09:34 PM Windows 2003 Server on a test server now. It's ok... DarktidesNET 06-08-2003, 11:21 AM Was 2k for a few years, just upgraded to XP yesterday. Tropical Tundra 06-09-2003, 12:57 AM XP at home desktop. Win 2000 Pro on my work laptop. We used Novell at work up until about a year ago. I was happy we ditched Novell. Outlook is much better then Goupwise for email! JackMitchell 06-09-2003, 03:11 AM Someone is using earlier then Windows 95? heh Using Windows ME Want to use Mandrake, but sister wants AOL so yea.. TalonKarrde 06-09-2003, 03:16 AM Red Hat (Though my current machine is a laptop I borrowed while I wait for my new HD to come in, this laptop has XP) ciqala 06-09-2003, 05:21 AM mac os x 10.2 also currently spec'ing an xp pro machine as a secondary machine then i'll be building a linux box (not sure which flavour yet). as for safari i have yet to find a site i frequent where it doesnt crash or display incorrectly. i use ie for generic surfing and ie classic when i need to use java as os x ie just doesnt work properly with java applets Knogle 06-09-2003, 06:51 AM I wonder who's still using Windows 95, or even NT! traixanha 06-09-2003, 08:08 AM win xp pro and linux redhat traixanha 06-09-2003, 08:10 AM Originally posted by sanjiv I wonder who's still using Windows 95, or even NT! i dont think people still using win 95,maybe still have some ,but now for webhost or order advance softwares |
