View Full Version : Looking to replace 2 dedicated servers @ DialtoneInternet
shrirch 07-11-2001, 01:24 PM I have the following configuration at Dialtone Internet and want to look at options which may be available.
2 Servers with 700Mhz CPU, 512MB RAM and 9GB SCSI hard drives with 60GB Bandwidth each.
I need the following.
Unmetered bandwidth between servers
Control Panel with option for admin / reseller / user (admin / user is also ok)
You must own the data center... and have good ping response times to Asia, specifically India.
Whats the best I can get right now?
Alan - Vox 07-11-2001, 01:50 PM You might want to give ed from pwebtech a call, i think they may still be doing a special deal where they will match dial tone internets prices. I know they can give you an internal network or something like that as well so you can transfer as much as you want between your servers.
DNCOO 07-11-2001, 02:19 PM I am sure we can assist you with this.
Please send me an email to Ed@pwebtech.com
I will follow up a response with all the details. Plus won't charge your for data transfers between your two servers.. :)
Highest Regards.
edude 07-11-2001, 02:47 PM I reccomend www.intenseinfo.com, great staff and support :)

Alan - Vox 07-11-2001, 02:59 PM is that the same company you have been waiting 2 days for to get your ips from Hostexp?
Justin S 07-11-2001, 02:59 PM You must own the data center...
PWebTech doesn't own a data center. They rent space from NAC.NET I believe. The only host that comes to mind that can provide something like that (that's low cost) is BurstNET...
edude 07-11-2001, 03:01 PM Correction 1 day, (2 days aus time) and thats arin.net

Owning a Datacenter will not always have an impact on how your Dedicated or Managed Services are runned.
Before everyone fly's off the handle here with tons of posts of bad experiences and and this thread grows to be 10 pages, I said WILL NOT ALWAYS... ;)
We are located within the same building as NAC. We offer superb support 24/7/365. Only difference in our relationship with Nac is that we have a State of the Art facility which we use and they paid the initial bill! There network and infrastructure is solid and stable.
Look around for hosts that own their own Datacenter and see what prices you are given. If they are extremely cheap, Look for the loop hole in the contract. Most of the time they will discount you to get you in the door just so that they can make up some of the cost they invested in the data center. Once they start filling up with customers they will probably want to raise your overall cost. If you don't like it, they will probably ask you to leave.
Happy Posting!
:D
jayglate 07-11-2001, 03:23 PM Hi, talk to ed about getting a quote on the machine, but for UNMETERED intra server communication it is $20 a month per server, to establish a private unmetered vlan for you.

cabalstudios 07-11-2001, 03:28 PM I goto agree with M34ME,
We ourselves are also located in the same building as the Tecnico US NOC based in Dearborn MI. We have engineers also offering 24/7/365 support.
Its just a question of what your ping responses are with the company who's servers you choose.
It dosen't/shouldn't matter if you own a noc or not.
Unmetered bandwidth between servers
We would suggest a 2nd Nic card and connect them to each other - then you could Xfer between the two and truly be unlimited. The main issue is how much. If you are pushing 50 mbit sustained all day we cant have that kind of internal lan traffic running through our routers without putting you on a seperate node. If you have a 2nd nic in each system then the xfer would be as fast as it can get plus almost a guarantee of 0 packet loss.
The second Nic installed would be a one time setup of $100.00 - You would need to activate the 2nd nic and set your internal ip's on the box. Thats $100 for both server, not $100 per server.
For server prices you can check our website, or you can email me and i'll give you a quote.
DNCOO 07-11-2001, 03:31 PM Plus won't charge your for data transfers between your two servers..
I can see mad posts coming to me about this comment.
Yes, there is a fee to setup a private vlan.
No, we will not charge you for the data transfer between the two machines.
Many of our customers tell us stories of how prior hosts would calculate their monthly bandwidth charges and add that into the amount that both machines are using together.
I.E having a contract with 50 GB of bandwidth and then having a percentage of that decreased because of the data transfered between your two machines.
This will not be the case with us.
BurstNET 07-11-2001, 06:22 PM Please contact BurstNET at sales@burst.net
We can meets your needs pretty inexpensively, can set up a private LAN for you without transfer charges between servers, and BurstNET owns and operates it's own data center in Scranton PA USA.....with decent speeds to Asia from what our foriegn clients tell us.

I think that all the companies listed do not own there datacenter.
I think if you are looking for a company that owns there datacenters you will be looking at verio, exodus, someone in that type of agenda.
Just a thought
JBIZ718 07-11-2001, 07:09 PM To splashhost.
In regards to IP's
I have sent you a email in regards to that, stating ARIN's regulations just so you know. We do have to follow certain rules, and IP's where given...
shrirch 07-11-2001, 08:49 PM Thanks folks. Will be sending out the requests shortly.
