View Full Version : Rackshack images / webcams...
Mekhu 06-04-2003, 05:23 PM Are we allowed to use the resources rackshack makes available on their website on our own?
I plan on having a "data center tour" section and would like the include the webcam shots along with some of the writeups and images, etc. Is this allowed?
SolidJoe 06-04-2003, 05:28 PM Probably, but don't try and pass it off as your own. Make sure you say something like "Here is where our servers are located, in the Rackshack Data Center." Don't say what so many hosts do and say "This is our own data center".

If you lease servers from there, that "is your own datacenter"
Your statement is like saying if you rent a house you can't publish pictures and say you live there because its not yours :)
(i know.. its not exactly like that.. but you may as well say this is our datacenter if you are spending the money to be there!)
etecc.net 06-04-2003, 10:32 PM Its cheating in my mind... Because its not actually yours...

I understand where turbo is coming from, but I agree et... I always give props to rackshack and all my clients know we're there.
Ok, gonna go ahead and use this stuff.

Jeff, the simple solution is to ask them. It is on their site, it's their material, you shouldn't be just using it without permission. I'm ignoring the, "Is it your datacenter?" issue for a moment.
Mekhu 06-05-2003, 02:04 AM Good advice, and will do right now.
Thanks :wavey:
turboweb 06-05-2003, 10:49 AM I'm not saying to say "you own thid datacenter" or give the impression that all of those servers are yours, but there is no harm in saying "my datacenter".
:)
But do get permission if your publishing stuff that isn't necessarily yours to publish in the first place!
brandonk 06-05-2003, 11:10 AM These are your two options:
- The datacenter where our servers are located
- The EV1 (or Rackshack) datacenter
You can't say it's yours, you aren't making lease payments (like a house) are you? No, you're simply renting a piece of equip. inside (and separate from) the datacenter.
ANMMark 06-05-2003, 11:28 AM Exactly what brandonk said :)
You are leasing the server, not the building the datacenter is in.
So, if you can get a photo of the server YOU are leasing, then you can say, "This is our server"
However, claiming that "This is our datacenter" would not be accurate. You could say however, with permission, "This is where are server(s) are/is"

But if you rent just a room in my house, I'm hoping you don't pretend you own the whole thing. Don't decieve your customers, and the best thing to do is just ask RS.
OneStopHost 06-05-2003, 05:01 PM I say what Rackshack themselves say - the colocation facility - don't see anything wrong with that
