View Full Version : Good job RackShack - thanks for sharing real-time information with customers

I notice that the RackShack fire thread was closed, but I feel a need to respond to the criticism they got from one or two people for posting about their situation here. As a customer of theirs, I can't say enough how glad I was that they did such an excellent job of keeping us up to date. It seems appropriate to me to post here because as others said also, RackShack has many direct and indirect customers, and many of their indirect customers visit WHT every day I would assume (e.g. though sabrovu (sp) or other resellers). And even if I weren't a customer of theirs, I enjoy the fact that WebhostingTalk is a forum about all aspects of web hosting - the good, the bad, and the ugly, and I'm very interested to hear how datacentes handle situations like this. Anyway, I just wanted to say how pleased I am with RackShack's efforts to keep their customers informed. I wish everyone were so open and forthcoming with up-to-date information and status reports.

Glad to see someone besides me appreciated the thread too. Regardless, a few facts remain:

1) Robert Marsh owns this forum and Rackshack. Therefore he can do WHATEVER HE WANTS with it.

2) Nobody pays to come here, if you don't like it, then go away.

The thread will be back. It needed some major cleaning. :(

Theres still a broken non stickied copy of it in the forum.

I do, why should someone be allowed to do whatever with something the own and paid a pretty penny for... :D

It's not like Robert, has by any means re-named all threads involving RS moaning to. We R teh l337 Company RS. They haven't done anything such like that. What makes a good business is it's ethic and its performance. RS/EV1 excells in both areas.

But as usual, someone has to $hit and moan about something or other. That's life for you. :(

Some people were getting fairly upset about it. At the end of the day it was a single thread out of 148,202 posted here - far to much fuss was made.

Anyone that thinks they wouldn't post when they wanted and where they wanted if they owned any forum, isn't being completely honest with themselves.

IMHO

Robert doesnt need to justify himself to any of us, but he did!

- He was in a rush to get the news out about what was happeneing.
- Staff were leaving the building.
- He had to decide what would ggrab the biggest audience in the shortest period of time.

WHT wins hands down for that.

I have unsticked the post as the critical time has passed.

Also, any host that does not worry about teh generator that is running their facility when they have no utility power is not being honest with themselves.

Did anyone here get the video footage from the TV? I know Robert and co were looking for a copy of it... would be interesting to see.

With all due respect, you used it for your own marketing... Also, if the rules are rules, then it would have gone under the Lounge or announcements.

SoftWare - You are a mod, who are you kidding...

I agree, i'm not complaining... Just dont you think "double standards" is not the way to run WHT IMHO...

The rules are there to keep things in tack and prevent any arguments etc... they should be followed by everyone.

Ok, I see...so now the rules do not apply to the owner? The owner who cares about everyone here and the well being of the entire industry and how things are run...can't abide by his own rules?

So posting a single sticky about a serious emergency is going to go against the well being of the entire industry?

You been hovering around all these RS emergency threads like a bad smell... do us all a favour and be quiet.

This is not the the first time Robert has done this. I complained about it the last times and I will continue to do so in the future. It clearly gives him an unfair advantage over every host that frequents and help to grow this board, not to mention the fact that he said in his posts when he was buying this place that he wouldn't do what his is doing now.

And to be frank, I don't think there is any problem with calling attention to the rules set by the forum and when they are broken.

Are we still on this subject?

Marsh owns WHT. It's his money, his servers, his time, his investment, his resources and his choice.

What if he pulled the plug on wht - would suck to be the ones currently trolling here everyday for new signups.

Just give it up, its pointless to argue with a man that could gobble you up in one bite. Rackshack has more broken servers in their graveyard than most dc's have in total.

If you dont like it, then take your posting somewhere else, but just shut up about it.

Its called competivive business practices. This is the part where marsh gets more and more business everyday and you get less and less. Why? Cause hes kicking your backside in everyway possible. Lets stop beating this dead horse. This is marsh's house, he will walk around in his undies if he wants, and no one will stop him.

I for one love the guy.

Go robert, Go robert, Go robert.

Exactly - he can do what he wants, when he wants, how he wants. It's HIS money that is paying for this.

It's just your opinion that Robert has to follow the rules on a forum that he owns. Maybe you could enlighten us with some legal precidents that prove your case?

Otherwise ---> :crazy:

Lat me correct something about the time and resources part of myself and WHT.

OK, I own the forum and pay for the hardware, bandwidth, etc.

HOWEVER, it is the mods who give their attention every day to the forum, users, etc that REALLY make WHT stand out. They have to exercise good judgement and balance everyones requirements, needs, and opinions.

90% of the time that goes into WHT is the mods. By and large, it is their decisions that run WHT. It is very rare that I "over rule" a concensus of the mods. VERY RARE. I hope that they would agree.

Robert

I can accept that as I'm sure you have more to do in your day than sit here at wht.

Then are you saying it would be up to the mods to "unsticky" a post you put up about rack shack?

I'm not trying to be a pain here, just looking for a clarification of the rules for the future thats all.

Speaking as a rackshack customer I find it awefull that my clients had found out about the problem before I did. In fact, they pointed me to the thread. Yes we do have a server left at rackshack, No we did not recieve notification of any emergency.. disruptive of service or not. I have read through all the threads heard all the excuses. Robert, I think your priority should be to contact the clients and NOT the masses or potential clients.. or clients of clients first. Finally we have recieved an email.. why did it take so long? Why were we not notified of the situation first?

I can see your point too... I really like the fact that RackShack provided so much detailed information about their emergency situation and how they were handling it and what to expect (or not to expect) but you're right, it would have been better if their direct customers had been alerted first or at the same time as they posted it for everyone to see - it's never good for your customers to know about soemthing before you do so you look foolish.
