We are working on it right now. I appreciate this is not an acceptable level of service, I do feel terrible about the downtime recently, however at this point all I can offer is my apologise and ask for some extra patience whilst we bring the server back online, we are doing everything possible to bring it back up as soon as possible.

All the best everyone,

Matt

We are looking at about another 2hrs to bring up web service and approximately 3hrs to bring up e-mail. I do apologise again for the inconvienence, we have had a treble run of bad luck over the past month, which I wouldn't wish on anyone. We are trying to resolve the issue as quickly as possible, making the server stable before fully starting services again. Rest assure we are doing everything technically possible to get your sites backup asap.

All the best,

That's good to know... My site is still down, I'll try again tomorrow... Good Night all...

Continual updates sent directly to your customers would be appreciated, and would ease a bit of the anxiety about the extended downtime.

The long downtimes have really compromised relationships with
our customers, and we haven't had any idea they would last up to 10 hours.

when this happens to a host twice in a few weeks and there is no explanation. I start to wonder if the host is starting to go down the tubes.

Best of luck Matt. We've just wrapped up the week from hell since that NAC fire, coupled with a migration to calmer waters. The last few days were taken up putting out spot fires on some accounts as they came to light.. no the most fun I've ever had, given all accounts were rebuilt by hand and populated from backup in two days. That included manually importing databases, checking scripts and readding username/passwords.

We even had to work out how to rebuild moveable type flatfile databases on the run :bawling: - proved simple.... once we knew how.

Oddly most of the new signups this week came from old time customers adding new accounts. It was a wonderful 'balm' over the wounds we're licking now :)

You'll do fine.

LOL, and assuming that like the majority of other customers I've seen, they have their main contact email set to the server/domain that they are hosted on (which is down).. How are they supposed to get the emails from the provider giving them updates?

I guess its good practice to have an alternate email field on "order or contact forms" and encourage customers to get a hotmail or other free email service so that a provider could send out updates to its customers when there are problems with the servers or network.

Indeed, our site will be moved to another server within the next few days, and there will be a thorough review of our emergency procedures.

There is a notice/summary of the recent events on our website (see link on frontpage).

Of course you would, but you probably don't have a clue. You have to understand, sometimes, when it rains it pours. That's life, not just this industry, and to give a limit of 2 mishaps "recently" means you probably spend 3 or 4 times as much for your hosting then most people.
Sorry if it seems harsh, but nothing disgusts me more then a company that does perfectly well for months or even years sometimes, and have a single "problem time" and then the company has something "really wrong" with it.

I'm not sure what you experienced but we have not been down in the last 24hours. Perhaps a mere connection blimp?

I have looked at the logs etc of internal monitoring SIM, external SMS monitoring, NAC data center monitoring, MRTG grpahing CPU loads/Processes etc, all indicating no problem in addition to other reports.

I have no idea what is going on. I even tried traceroute and the results came back as 'timed out'. It was up earlier today, but now the same thing. could it be my ISP or something??

OK, it's up again. I logged into my control panel and checked the server status. There is a blinking red light next to server load, could that be it?
