When I moved my site bcvoice.com from prohosting to powweb I called powweb first explained my stats, what we were using now and how we planned to expand. They told me they could handle it no problem, they had many large sites. So I switched to powweb, things were ok for maybe the first week, then the mysql problems started, mysql was up and down for weeks, not good when your whole site runs off a database. Then they put mysql limits on all accounts. My nuke site would work for maybe 1 hour then mysql would cut me off due to limits. I sent many e-mails and called support many times. What really would piss me off, is I would call tech sup. and they would tell me to go to the message board and look there for a fix. When I call I expected help, but it always semed like they wanted to get me off the phone asap. In the ended I was extreamly mad, all I wanted was a backup copy of my database. I could not download one from phpmyadmin since my database was 30 megs. I called and they kept telling me to use phpmyadmin. I explained to them I couldnt get a backup and they wouldnt help. Then the mysql limits would hit and I couldn't get anything. Finialy I did a dump from my own linux colo with mysqldump. So, from my short time with them, I suggest you do not use them. SynergyGN 06-03-2003, 07:36 PM Yeah, they are a great host --- if you are looking to be defrauded. Kimmikat 06-12-2003, 03:53 AM The only caution I have about Powweb is if you use mySQL. They have placed grant limits on the mySQL server to keep it stable, but some apps will error out if you reach the limits imposed. When I used to have my site there, my mboards sometimes would error. When I moved my site to my current host, based in Austrailia, I had no problems. Currently the Powweb MySQL limitations are set to 36,000 questions per hour, and 3,600 connections per hour per user. They allow 3 users per database, although you can rotate users to have up to 108,000 questions per hour. |
