I would not recommend Akopia Intercharge for a serious shopping cart. It tend to hang up often. We have Akopia Intercharge in our server, and we remove it from the Control Panel.
Akopia is more a problem than a solution.

Yes i agree with you, akopia comes with most cpanel webhosting companies, we prefer miva.

Akopia Interchange works fine on our servers. We haven't had any problems at all with it.

I prefer to use CartIt for my e-commerce shopping carts.
