View Full Version : New rules needed for REQUESTS forum
Martie 06-01-2003, 01:40 PM I know this has been discussed before but was hoping by now maybe headsurfer would allow the mods or someone to create new forums, or adjust rules when needed.
It seems the way it is now that its more work for the mods in the REQUESTS forums as they are now.
Half (or more) are nothing but requests for FREE hosting.
Wouldnt it just be simpler on everyone (esp. mods)
to setup a FREE forum, sub-forum, or put rules in place that the original poster would have to put FREE in their subject line?
Its really a mess the way it is.
Stephen 06-01-2003, 02:27 PM I have tried to do this countless times, and it almost worked out I dunno if there doing it but from the looks of it no... but eh give em sometime :) The mods are busy
SoftWareRevue 06-01-2003, 02:31 PM That's all there is to if, Finched.
It's on the table. We just be busy. :bawling:
Xshare 06-01-2003, 02:45 PM Maybe a subforum like the Cobalt Raq forum? Oh, and give some trusted people mini-moderatorship so that they can move the free threads there when people will UNDOUBTABLY not read and post the free webspace threads in the main forum, rather than the subforum.
Stephen 06-01-2003, 03:58 PM I looked for the one forum, SWR should know the one I am refering to... and it seems to be gone so I can't show you guys it :(
Stephen 06-01-2003, 04:00 PM hah nm found it ... http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=135220
3spades 06-01-2003, 04:34 PM The idea sounds good only if the posts go unanswered meaning people stop giving free hosting to people who think that everything on the net should be free (excluding non profit orgs which have a good cause and someone who sees the cause offers hosting).
Sheps 06-01-2003, 05:02 PM Requests for free hosting are alright, if they are for churches, or other non-profit orgs. Some people actually dedicate whole servers to non-profit orgs.
It would be cool to have a windows request forum a linux request forum reseller shared and more. Just so that people could find host alot faster and what they need. Save alot of time and bandwith for the site. Reason it would save bandwith is I dont offer windows hosting. So I would never enter the windows area to post or read anything because it does me no good. Thanks

It seems that all of the hosts that are offering free space to all of the gamers and clans that ask for it are questionable to begin with. I've seen hosts giving away space to people who just asked for space and bandwidth and didn't even know what they wanted to do with it. The only way to eliminate it is to be more strict with the posting of offers from these hosts. We need a moderator 24/7 just to keep the sleeze away from the request forum. It makes the entire forum redundant for the honest hosts and poisons the forum for people coming here to find a good host.
Stephen 06-01-2003, 07:14 PM I think this forum should get more dedicated to Web Hosting, it seems to be going on a more general Talk path. That is why this idea is good... also I like your idea for linux and windows seperate :)
Bling Bling 06-02-2003, 12:21 AM I remember reading on a board,i dont remember were it was tho but it said something like,
DONT PAY FOR HOSTING
SIMPLY REQUEST FREE HOSTING @ webhostingtalk.com and wait for hosts to respond and just choose one.
I kinda think FREE hosting requests should not be allowed, but thats just my opinion, sooner or later there will be more FREE requests rather than paying ones.
SoftWareRevue 06-02-2003, 12:29 AM Then they'll be in the Free Requests Forum.
If there were a Free Requests Forum.
