View Full Version : Server Extensions question + General Advice for Hosts

One question + one observation:

I am looking to transfer my site from my current host. Their service has been good, however since they upgraded to FrontPage Server Extensions 2K2 from 2K, my site cannot be uploaded (I use Web Publishing Wizard) and can no longer be viewed. Needless to say, great for business....Prior to that upgrade I was able to upload sans difficulties. They say I no longer have the option to have SE 2K since "so many people want the new version and it's backward compatible anyway". I'd like to know if any of the well-regarded hosts still provide SE 2K and if anyone has heard of anomalies with the 2K2 SE and older versions of FrontPage such as 2000. When uploading I constantly get "server extensions not installed on the server" although the host claims they are.

Now an observation: I am primarily a business person and by default, the webmaster. When searching for a host (or any business partner for that matter), 3rd party experiences and observations are always very hepful. However, when I followed those comments and head to the websites of a number of hosts (including several highly-regarded by this forum) I come across things I wouldn't expect: websites with dead links, poorly formatted text, unreadable text, poorly written English, etc. We won't even talk about host sites that are down and sites that are afraid of listing a telephone number (I know, REAL webmasters don't ever need to use such an outmoded form of communication). Really inspires coinfidence. Now folks I know you all assume if you offer bags of bandwidth and miniscule prices people will beat a path to you, but for a lot of potential clients, a supplier who doesn't care about the image his business projects makes them wonder about their ability to serve their needs properly. I can tell you it makes me wonder.

Yes!
Very good point. Some of the more recommended hosts here do have unprofessional web sites with exact the "features" you mention. Very funny.
I will not name any of them, I am sure you all know them.

I think you're right:

-"Package" on line 1 should be plural.
-the word "and" on line 3 doesn't belong there
-Lite Package should read "Our" or "The" Lite Package
-Evey is not a word
-FrontPage Extensions, not Extension.

That's just on the main page....

Danilo, maybe you should offer a broken-link and spell-checking-service? :)

Thanks, Walter...

In fact content writing for marketing and website materials is one of my avocations. I'd be happy to work with anyone who feels they have such a need.

OOOps, I guess that last line belongs in the advertising forum! ;)

Omair: I'll e-mail you my rate...PayPal and ProPay cheerfully accepted.
