Hi,
I just read Hobbes' Internet Timeline 5.3:
http://www.zakon.org/robert/internet/timeline
I'm puzzled about the aparently slow development of network performance in the first 15 years:
1970: First cross-country (USA) link installed by AT&T between UCLA and BBN at 56kbps
1986: NSFNET created, backbone speed of 56kbps
Is this possible?? 16 years later, zero improvement in network speed?
I find it hard to believe. If any of you know a link to anohter history page to confirm this, I would much appreciate. Thanks.
