1 Year Review Site5.com and Gearhost.com
1 year ago I told everyone that I would give a report on these two companies that I started out with.
Well I did not make it with either one of them.
Site5:
I left Site5 after 6 months because they did not have windows servers. This was not their fault since I went into the deal knowing they were not windows hosters.
Site5 did not have ANY downtime during that 6 months and support was outstanding for the couple of questions that I had. The servers always seemed fast, uploading websites went smooth, etc, etc. You get the picture: NO PROBLEMS.
If I needed a hosting company and did not need Windows, I would go back to Site5. I left them Oct 2002. (Side note: I’ve heard on this forum that Site5 has had some problems this year. I don’t know if the problems were resolved, but I would use them).
Gearhost:
Well, I did month to month and everything went fine so I decided in Oct 2002 to do a 1 year contract to save money (OK so I was stupid…). Anyway, in Dec I had problems. Then January, then February, then March! Loads of downtime, poor customer support and other “little” problems (i.e. could not log into e-mail). It got to the point that I was spending more time on my website than on my business. In the middle of March I started looking for another host. I had found a host by the end of March and moved two of my websites. After more problems with GearHost in April I moved all of my sites and asked for a refund for the remaining months.
According to GearHost website they did not have to refund any monies. But GH did not give me any problems about returning my money! They even apologized for the downtime and ask me to come back since they would have all the problems fixed in a matter of weeks. I’m not hostile toward GearHost… it was a business decision to move my sites… can’t have an internet business if no one can get to our site!
I don't believe I would ever return to GearHost.
These are my experiences with both host. I tried to list only facts without trying to "do in" any company.
