View Full Version : Dedicated server specs
theatis 07-09-2001, 03:08 AM Hello everyone I would like your advise please:
How does a Celeron 500 with 128MB memory machine sound for a dedicated server to be used for providing hosting?
cperciva 07-09-2001, 03:15 AM Well, it sounds rather lightweight... but if you're not planning on getting much traffic then it doesn't really matter. That would be about in line with a Raq system, if that helps.
davidb 07-09-2001, 03:49 AM I personally think it is a good idea, IF it can be upgraded, my server now is pretty light weight also, but I have a plan to upgrade as needed due to lack of initial money.
JBIZ718 07-09-2001, 03:57 AM I say go with a Dual Athlon Board
4gbs of RAM
5SCSI 36 15k drives
Well and some other things
Just a thought

This is probably outside of his budget, based on his initial statement... Just a thought... :)
I would say that you should be fine, as long as you can load it with RAM later as needed... and being able to add a faster CPU down the road wouldn't hurt either.

Tim Greer 07-09-2001, 05:37 AM I guess some people don't understand the concept of humor. Anyway, I'd say go with any Atari system.

Just watch how many accounts you put on the server. Script/database intensive sites can eat up that RAM pretty quickly.
Tim Greer 07-09-2001, 08:29 PM Yes, IT'S TRUE! .. *... Uncontrolled sobbing! .. * ... I've not been well lately. If you want to help, please send me lots and lots and lots of money.
Actually, I've just been busy, and I've been in training and nothing really changes here, so I don't post too often or read too much stuff anymore. And, no, I didn't fall and break my fingers... Thanks for the concern. :-)
