View Full Version : How often should I re-boot

I'm having a blast with my first dedicated server, but I'm still learning. I noticed I can re-boot the machine through the control panel, and I got to thinking - is this something I should do occasionally?

Would there be a benefit to re-booting once a week, or once a month, or should I not even worry about it?

Oh, by the way - Rackspace kicks @ss! I was setting up my subdomains, but due to an apparent bug in the control panel, I needed to have httpd.conf manually edited to add a NameVirtualHost directive in Apache. I opened a service ticket and clicked on Submit, expecting to get things working in a day or so.... but I was wrong.

I got an e-mail in 12 minutes saying they had completed the modifications! The subdomains works perfect now. Just wanted to share that, I thought it was really cool.

You should not have to reboot except after performing major upgrades. If rebooting results in any increase in performance, there's something wrong with the system.

Rackspace's adverts speak quite truely when they refer to their 'fanatical support'. Now if only their prices would come a bit more in line with everyone else's...

A Mercedes Benz isn't the same price as a Chevrolet. Not that there's anything wrong with any other host's quality, but Rackspace certainly has a reputation for top-notch service and reliability.
