Not too sure where this thread should go, but I thought that it was too business oriented to go in the lounge.

Does anyone use the Precision Workstations from Dell? I've been looking at their site and the case for these workstations are described as "Innovative clamshell chassis design with QuietCaseTM acoustic environment provides ease of access to internal components.", but how quiet are these cases compared to the Dell Dimension desktops?

Having a computer on for 24x7 in an office is annoying if it's very loud. I like to make sure that all computers are as low noise as possible, but I couldn't find any further info on the QuietCase that they use and exactly how little noise it produces... one of the disadvantages of ordering from a mailing company.

We have a couple of them, and I'm working on a Dimension 4550 right now. I wouldn't say the workstations are quieter, in fact the 4550 is nearly silent. The 420 workstations cases might make them quieter than they'd be with a different case, but I wouldn't say that "quietness" would be the reason to buy one. On the other hand that "ease of access to internal components" is a plus; access in those cases is great.

But actually, now that I think about it, that might not be relevant anyway. Ours are 420s, and that's not a current model. The new ones could be quieter.

I may possibly be going for the workstation model as it's built for more business use than the average home user.
