View Full Version : MOTM: May Nominations
Akash 05-29-2003, 02:29 PM Fellow Members of WebHostingTalk, the time has come again to nominate those we think deserve the honor. To those of you who do not know what this is all about:
Each month, we (participating members of the community) get together and nominate members we think should be acknowledged. The members do not have to be hosts, they may be customers also. It is a two part process - nominations and voting. The 5 members with the highest number of nominations will go on to the final voting, from which we will vote on the one member we think should be acknowledge as the Member of the Month for that given month. This member will receive the prize announced and (thanks to Reptilian Feline) a "certificate" that will be posted on WHT. Prizes come from donations by the community so please donate :).
Below are the rules for May 2003.
These rules will be posted in every nomination thread as they are subject to change from month to month:
Note: There is no more limit of 1 nomination per member:) Each member can now nominate up to 3 other members per month :)
- Members may not nominate themselves.
- Members are allowed to make only three nominations per month.
- Only members who have registered prior to the given month are eligible. (Registered Date Must be April 30th, or earlier.
- Moderators are not eligible
- Members who have won in the previously in the same year (2002 excluded) are not eligible for nomination in the current month. Currently, this includes Chicken(April), SoftWareRevue(March), Vito(February), Yupapa(January, tied) and UH-Matt(January, tied).
- In the event of a tie, no prize will be issued.
- Nominations will normally begin on the final Wednesday of a month, and end 7 days thereafter, or when the nomination thread is closed (whichever comes first).
- Voting will begin on the day after the nomination period ends, and will last for 7 days, or when the poll is closed (whichever comes first).
- A Nomination must include the following:
+ MemberName with link to profile
+ Reason for nomination (and not just (s)he makes me laugh)
+ (optional) link to specific post(s)/thread(s) that are worth mentioning.
That being said, let's get on to prize information :)
Currently we have $44 in the WHT MOTM fund available for prizes. If you would like to donate a prize or give me ideas for prizes, please PM or email me.
If you would like to donate to the MOTM Fund, please click here to go to the PayPal Donation screen. (https://www.paypal.com/xclick/business=akashd84%40hotmail.com&item_name=WebHostingTalk+Member+Of+The+Month+Fund&amount=1.00&no_shipping=1&no_note=1&tax=0¤cy_code=USD)
If you'd like to donate more than $1 please contact me :)
-----------------------------------------------------------
Now that's all outta the way....on with the nominations :D
Note: The Owners/Other Moderators/Administrators of WHT are in no involved in this. This is being coordinated by me, with the help of other forum members, in an effort to improve the quality of the community and give recognition where it is deserved. If you have any problems/questions/concerns, please email or PM me :)

I don't know. Seems rather unfair.
Comedians are an intregal ingredient in maintaining my sanity.
I suppose, instead of stating, "Because (s)he makes me laugh, I could say, "Always helpful."
:cartman: Sure seems to be a lot of discussion about rules lately.
Manga 05-30-2003, 03:27 AM I nominate DarktidesNET.
Xshare 05-30-2003, 07:49 AM I nominate Akashik. I'll edit this post to include a profile when I get back.
mesa nominates:
Rewdog - because he is the coolest mofo I know.
ntwaddel - He's pro-bsd, and a all around cool guy
Hoobastank68 - just seems like a cool guy :)
Mark_TVI 05-30-2003, 09:53 AM 1) Coach (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=26244) There is no question this guy has gone way out of his way to help out other people on this board. I can't recall the name of that one thread but a Host had sold their business without telling any of his clients. Coach tracked down all the information, made phone calls, sent emails, and helped quite a few people understand why their sites were down.
There are quite a few others that are helpful but I am only nominating one....

;)
Rewdog 05-30-2003, 11:26 AM Ub3r - Cause he spammed me and told me too :)
SoftWareRevue 05-30-2003, 11:30 AM Well, at least he didn't make you laugh.
Rochen 05-30-2003, 12:27 PM Just sent in my donation :gthumb:
As for who to vote for, I shall have to give this some further thought. I was going to vote for Vito because of those great DemoDemo banners that give me a laugh when I see them, but I can't vote him :(
Joe Bonanno 05-30-2003, 01:05 PM Nomination
Sprintserve (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=28118)
Reliable, mature contributions to all kinds of questions.
blue27 05-30-2003, 01:18 PM Is it too late to vote for that Harvard Honors student who bought the server for the socially challenged 13 year old.
Note: There is no more limit of 1 nomination per member
- Members are allowed to make only three nominations per month.
Whats the official rule?
Akash 05-30-2003, 01:39 PM There's a limit of 3 nominations per month :)

so, when we post, we can make 3 nominations? or just one?
Are you saying that the same member cannot be nominated more than 3 times by different users?
Akash 05-30-2003, 01:43 PM No -
- Members are allowed to make only three nominations per month.
So you can make up to 3 nominations

Thanks for the sentiment, rochen. Glad I could give you a chuckle... :emlaugh:
I will definitely nominate Coach again. There are a number of members who consistently and selflessly contribute to this community. And Coach is right at the front of that line.
I'll give some more thought and decide on 2 more...
Vito
bitserve 05-30-2003, 06:37 PM I nominate:
blue27 (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=32717) (seems helpful and friendly)
XXXXXXXX (scratch off vito)
blue27 (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=32717) (his or her posts stand out in my mind)
blue27 (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=32717) (hasn't said anything profoundly stupid yet)
Both of these people I don't even remember being here back before I stopped coming here.

See? I wasn't around then.
I think I found another loophole in the nomination rules. :)
"There is no more limit of 1 nomination per member. Each member can now nominate up to 3 other members per month. Members are allowed to make only three nominations per month."
I read this as members are allowed to make only three nominations, not two, not one, but only three? :)
I'm just kiddng. Really.
Thanks, bitserve, but I was MOTM a few months ago. You will have to nominate someone else...
Vito
chrisdr_2003 05-30-2003, 08:32 PM I nominate ub3r

Karlof 05-30-2003, 08:53 PM Coach (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?action=getinfo&userid=26244): In all posts that I've read with a Coach reply, he always seems to be very helpful and friendly. Thumbs up for Coach!
plugged 05-30-2003, 09:15 PM akashik (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=317): always helpful, his replies when dealing with the NAC crisis showed his good attitude.
AussieHosts 05-30-2003, 10:49 PM I'll go with:
Myacen (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=7885): Level headed contributor and a Sandgroper to boot!
Gordo (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=5363): Good contributor. Always enjoy his posts.
Dylan (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=693): For introducing us to Plesk, many moons ago.

Just kidding....
blue27 05-31-2003, 10:15 AM I'll get in under the wire here and put my vote in for Coach.
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&find=lastposter&threadid=147903
The reasons should be obvious. Always willing to lend a hand and goes above and beyond the usual pat answers like, do a search, or go to hotscripts.com, or check their whois. Coach does'nt seem to mind taking a little of his own time to give someone else a hand.
Good job Coach.

Another vote for Coach's nomination.
netacore 06-01-2003, 02:29 AM I nominate timechange (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?action=getinfo&find=firstposter&threadid=148575), his posts in the 'Lounge' are always amusing;)
Pilgrim 06-01-2003, 03:32 AM I'll go with timechange (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?action=getinfo&find=firstposter&threadid=148575) as well.
In one thread he said I have humor. Not many people realize that. In fact I think he's the only one... That makes him special!
Coach 06-01-2003, 02:41 PM My vote goes to sprintserve this month.
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=28118
I was going to actually nominate him last month, but found it pointless with Chicken in the mix... Last month's winner was going to be an obvious one. :)
Additionally, Watcher_TVI
http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=26249
He's always helpful, courteous and a likable guy. Additionally, he was going to take some time out of his schedule to visit a local office which I had suspected of some really distasteful behavior (which turned out to be someone else, so he didn't need to make the visit). Additionally, a thread was made about overselling and even though the debate got pretty heated, his view on it never swayed and he stayed extremely professional throughout.
I could easily nominate two to twenty more, but those two are the ones that immediately popped into my head.
Stephen 06-01-2003, 03:31 PM ub3r
okay, so I couldn't find this thread on the list of threads, could a mod sticky this?
Thank you to all who nominated my uber leet self ;)

DarktidesNET 06-02-2003, 10:09 AM I already made my nominations :)

Akash 06-04-2003, 12:22 PM Update:

Just finished a job for me.....Great Guy...apart from the fact that he supports Liverpool....still...inspite of his misguided football allegiances...Fazel3 gets my vote!
Simon
Thank you for your vote matt, looks like the nominations will be over in a few hours. I'm too tired to go through and count all of my nominations, but hopefully i'll be up for vote with the official thread.
advice to the rest of the people:
Do not drink benedryl at 8PM .
secludo 06-05-2003, 03:04 AM Just curious, and maybe this has been discussed before (if so I apologize), but why don't you issue a prize when there is a tie? Why not create a new thread with a poll with only the names of the tied nominees and then everyone has to vote for either one or the other, most likely making the votes less even?
hey, uhh... when is voting going to begin?
Akash 06-06-2003, 11:04 PM Sorry - it'll be up later tonite - been busy with my personal life :D
