View Full Version : Put my foot in my mouth.
venomx 07-07-2001, 07:48 PM My server had a real high load (30's to 50's) so I finally just went and told the server to restart. Well guess what. That was 5 hours ago and it still is dead. I have emailed support@ sysadmin@ sean@ brad@ and BurstNet has yet to email me back or anything.
creid 07-07-2001, 07:55 PM Call maybe?
kwimberl 07-07-2001, 08:41 PM I think they are on skelletin staffing for the holiday weekend. I have had slower than normal response times myself this week. I do know that Eric is there (or was earlier today) if that helps...
venomx 07-07-2001, 10:00 PM Theres no answer... Anyone have an emergency number for them?
Get-Hosted.com 07-07-2001, 10:18 PM It seems noone is there right now. Haven't been all day.
venomx 07-07-2001, 10:41 PM Well it just came back up after like 7 hours so I am happy now .
UmBillyCord 07-07-2001, 10:49 PM Well it just came back up after like 7 hours so I am happy now .
Wow, you are easy to please. Most people with a hosting company would be pissed about 7 hours of downtime. If I lease a server, I would want a 24/7 contact to do those emergency cold reboots or swift kicks to the side.
DHWWnet 07-07-2001, 11:02 PM speaking of doing a Cold reboot , anybody got the login url for it ? please email me the url. Thanks.
Alareach 07-08-2001, 12:32 AM me too
alahater@ureach.com
Thanks

Planet Z 07-08-2001, 12:48 AM I don't think Burst offers remote reboot, at least not by default.
kwimberl 07-08-2001, 12:50 AM They are working on this solution now. Sean told me he *hopes* it will be live by the end of next week.
bbrader 07-08-2001, 12:58 AM remote rebooting costs alot of money to implement across alot of servers so i doubt they are doing that free. (if its real kvm not virtual kvm crap)

venomx 07-08-2001, 01:15 AM Not pleased that ir was 7 to 8 hours but happy that it wasnt all weekend.

Well, it MUST be free because the site says they have it and is included in every dedicated account.

read the following as a funny ;)
you said :

I am picturing you walking up to a server and telling it to restart ??? maybe ya need to yell at it ?? that is a cool puter that you can tell it what to do
I have to push buttons on my puter ;(
its not one of those HAL models I guess
heheheheh

If they don't have it currently setup, it will be a major expense to add it on all the servers now. It costs about $50 per server to setup remote reboot. So, if Burst has 200 dedicated servers, that's $10,000. A nice chunk of change.
Domenico 07-08-2001, 02:22 PM Well, they advertised with it so they really can't charge you for it afterwards. If they would they would make a lot of people very angry. They said they were fixing it so don't worry about that.
I think remote reboot is a very important feature too have and will take a lot of work away from the support people.

I agree 100%. A data center with integrity, will either have a remote reboot interface or NOC people there 24/7 if you need them... period.
DHWWnet 07-08-2001, 11:01 PM I think, they said something about getting it fully setup soon.. I was just wondering if anybody got their login info.
http://www.burst.net/servers/
All servers are wired into an uninterruptible power supply. All servers have remote cold (re)boot equipment installed for your password protected usage...
http://www.burst.net/servers/ :)
Planet Z 07-08-2001, 11:59 PM If it's already installed, why can't anyone use it? I don't think I've seen anyone on here mention using remote reboot with their Burst servers. It would probably help alleviate the almost daily posts about waiting for a reboot by Burst.
DHWWnet 07-09-2001, 12:09 AM I'm also wondering the same thing.
Maybe Sean will have some definite answers.
kwimberl 07-09-2001, 12:12 AM Anyone heard when Sean is due back in the office? I need some more IP's desparately...
analog 07-09-2001, 12:44 AM probably a dumb question, but can't you just issue a reboot command in linux, and wait a few minutes for the box to come back up?
Or, are we talking about doing this when a server crashes, and you cannot remotely connect to it?
venomx 07-09-2001, 12:45 AM when a server crashes
venomx 07-09-2001, 06:06 PM Well well....
I woke up and had an email waiting from a friend that cpanel was saying it expired... I sent a support request in and 30 minutes later Brad emails me back after fixing it.
I hope they can keep up that kinda support. I still think they need a few more people on the weekends and holidays.
kwimberl 07-09-2001, 06:23 PM Just as a follow up:
I got my IP's today. I also had another issue which was resolved within 5 minutes of me opening the support ticket. Now that's impressive!!!
They do an awesome job when they are around. Hats off to Sean, Eric, and Nick who all helped me today. I think they just had few staff around this holiday weekend...
