Hello,

I have a local business owner as a client. I built an e-commerce site for him (which he's very happy with) and today I was asked to put products (pictures - medium and large size + descriptions) for him. Since this is going to be an online computer store, we're probably talking about 100 products min. Could someone, please advice me how much should I charge for a job like that? I tried to look up that info on the Internet, but couldn't find anything.

Thank you in advance for any advice you'll give me.

Regards,

Rick

I would charge around $15/hour atleast.. Maybe a bit more..

He will prolly want the site updated later, so you can think of this almost as a recurring income so you don't have to make a huge profit off this the first time..

Depending on where you live; I would expect to pay a 'pretty good' web designer about $50 - $75/hr. I realize you won't be coding just adding pictures....but one thing typically leads to another.

If you can do it pretty quick you might want to quote a 'fixed price' -- like $75 for 100 pictures -- which if you can do in an hour would be a pretty decent wage. Bascially the same thing as a hourly rate but the customer may/isn't aware of just how long it will take to get 100 pictures up and may feel its a bargin at that price.

How much did you charge for the site? I have a feeling he is happy with that price and thinks your services for placing the images and descriptions (are those already written?) are going to be "very" affordable.

Don't lowball yourself. It's more tedious and time consuming than you think. Ever started an eBay auction? Now imagine doing that a hundred times.

Also, if you don't know how many items there will be, you should obviously charge by the item or the hour - not the project. My inclination would be to charge by the hour (in case other little tasks pop up) with a guaranteed minimum for the entire project.

Charge him another couple 100 bucks... I would. If it is a couple hundred images, it might take you some time.

An idea may to set him up on a recurring basis. Charge him $50 a month for unlimited updates. He'll be asking you to update the site everytime he changes prices or adds products. This way you have a recurring rev stream and he doesn't have to worry about pay for every change he wants to make.

Better yet, $50 a month for 100 updates. $150 for unlimited.

Hi, Rick ~

Did you charge him by the hour for the first part of the project? If so, how much is your hourly fee? How many pictures / descriptions can you realistically load in an hour (taking interruptions and gliches into account)?

Here is an example ~

You charge $45 an hour and can load 15 descriptions/pictures an hour. Give yourself a buffer and say you can load 10 for $45. For 100 pictures/decriptions you charge $450 and $45 for each additional 10.

This only works if you are not the one writing the descriptions. I have known descriptions to go for $10 - $30 a piece.

Don't short change yourself. Ask what you are worth. The customer is already happy with your work and knows you are good. Don't diminish that with a low rate.

Have you actually been paid for building the site yet?
