View Full Version : Are others trying to compete with RackShack?
pgowder 05-27-2003, 09:16 AM Just saw this in an ad:
http://www.interland.com/dedicated/self_managed.asp
So are others now try to compete with RackShack?
Anyone tried one of these servers?
AussieHosts 05-27-2003, 09:24 AM They're certainly having a good shot at it.
NexDog 05-27-2003, 09:29 AM Hmmm, Interland. No, thanks.
Chachi 05-27-2003, 09:29 AM Why is that Laurence?
NexDog 05-27-2003, 09:30 AM Their decent reputation. ;)
Chachi 05-27-2003, 09:38 AM Interland gives 25 days notice of Colocation termination...
Communitech bought by Interland . . . SERVER MIA and LOST!!!
dialtone/interland incompetancy
Some threads found through search... they are also the world's largest host so perhaps the complaints are only relative to their size? :)
pgowder 05-27-2003, 09:59 AM Hmm, didn't hear that Communitech bought Interland. I've hosted with both, and wouldn't go back.
But was curious if there was going to be some competition among these companies and if more were going to get into the price range of RackShack.
Thanks
Chachi 05-27-2003, 10:09 AM Interland bought Communitech (not the other way round). To be honest Interland are one of the few that could compete with RackShack, Burst tried it AND believe me they're struggling to cope with the $99 server model.
Layer3 05-27-2003, 10:37 AM I worked for a dot com who had 7 servers at dialtone 10 months ago. The service was unmatched. Dialtone was great with customer service! When they got bought out by Interland the service went downhill. Internland's reputation in customer service is pretty bad lately. But they might be the one to compete with rackshack, but i'd stick with rackshack.
inteltechs 05-27-2003, 10:54 AM Rackshack will win on this battle :)
Sheps 05-27-2003, 12:11 PM RS will definately win this battle. They have such a large following... Plus headsurfer looks out for his customers.
AKavanaugh 05-27-2003, 02:38 PM The only ad Interland should be putting out is:
"Look for us in next months issue of . Bomb"
Joshua 05-27-2003, 03:14 PM Many others are trying to compete with RackShack, such as...
DN
Burst
Ezzi
FDC
ThePlanet
HostAny
Interland
ServerBeach
ServInt
Cyberworld
HostMania
The list goes on and on... Nobody has actually gotten to the level of RS yet (~12Gbps connectivity, hundreds of employees, thousands upon thousands of servers, awesome Dell server deals... ) :D

SolidJoe 05-27-2003, 04:09 PM Choopa.com has a pretty impressive network, comparable to RS.
headsurfer 05-27-2003, 05:49 PM Actually, the customer wins and the companies also win. The customer wins when we as an industry compete with new products, services, and features. The companies also win with a greatly increased market in which to sell their products and services.
Everyone wins in an expanding market such as dedicated servers.

I completely agree, competition is good for us, the customers. That is why I started this topic, to see if there was going to be more competition in this market that RS is dominating right now.
But even with lower prices, it is going to be hard to match RS's dedication. Having the HS read and post here is pretty impressive and shows great level of commitment to their customers.
Thanks!
bitserve 05-28-2003, 09:25 AM You guys forgot to mention affinity's valueweb. The host with the most (hate sites).
