View Full Version : ColdFusion/MS SQL hosting recommendations, please
Has anyone had good experiences with a webhost offering ColdFusion for a reasonable rate (< $20USD)/month? I would prefer MS SQL support, but would also be interested even if they only offer MS Access.
I have previously been with inetdesign2k.com and just in the last couple of weeks (as my account was coming up for renewal) they have done some things that I haven't been too happy about. So I decided to change hosts (go with someone with a reseller plan). I have signed up with ucvhost.com and I am about to see if they stand by their 30-day money back guarantee. They have REALLY NOT impressed me. Their 24 hour chat support definitely isn't, everything is done via control panels which are not very intuitive, so I really need chat support. I have no idea where my mail is going, it's not being forwarded to me (like I set it up to do in the control panel), the mail control panel has been down for at least 2 days now. I set things up for 4 domains, then a couple of days later the control panel was down for a day. When it came back online my information was changed, my personal profile had someone else's email address. They don't seem to be responding to my email now either. Not good!
So I am looking for a better host for my sites. I have come across mxhub.com, has anyone heard anything about them?
TIA

ginakra 07-07-2001, 11:15 AM I've been looking for some inexpensive CF hosting as well. I ended up going with www.cfm-reources.com, only because I made an impulse decision before they raised their rates ;) Things have been quite good so far, I've only had the account for a week.
The others I looked into are:
http://www.frontserve.com/winhosting.html
Access only on plans below $50/month
http://www.cosmotek.net/services/compare.htm
I almost went with this company. I've been watching their forum, and haven't seen any major complaints. I will probably try them in the future. Their MS SQL option is $25.00 more a month--eek.

Looks like you have to pay 80 bucks a month for MS SQL. I've heard good things about this company from others.
http://www.visionis.com/hosting/
SQL Server 7 included in all plans
http://www.readyhosting.com/hosting/hosting.html
MS SQL $25/year per database, heard good things about this co from others as well.
http://www.v-domains.com/h_database.asp
I don't think MS SQL is offered here

MS SQL offered, heard good things also
Hope these help :)

Thanks for that. I have had a look at the hosts on your list that I didn't know about. I have heard good things about abihosting as well.
I found another host as well, I signed up just minutes before collecting my mail and finding out you had replied to my post. :erm: So I have ended up going with mxhub.net (http://www.mxhub.net). If they don't work out I will go to abihosting.
At hostsearch mxhub.net (http://www.mxhub.net) got mostly very good reviews. One sounded just like a marketing/pr person (they gave a 10) and another ip address was similar. But the other reviews were really good as well, there were quite a few. And I noticed in perusing their site that on their support page they actually have a link and graphic button inviting users to review/rate them at hostsearch. So I figure at the very least if someone was unhappy with them they would be more likely to jump at the chance to diss them, and considering that, their reviews mostly looked good (only one low score -- 6).
I'll find out soon enough ;)

Jedito 07-07-2001, 08:07 PM Check this out

Thanks for this Jedito. I had done a search for mxhub on this forum, but didn't come up with anything. It's a bit of a worry, a host who has to copy other people's sites. Like, putting together a website is the easy part, how do they handle all the other hosting issues? I guess as a reseller maybe they don't have to.
I've already commited for 3 months (well, there is that 14-day money back guarantee ;) ), so I have them under scrutiny now. I won't hesitate to move if they aren't up to scratch. I hope they have actually created their own site now. Does anyone know? Anyone from this original post (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10875&perpage=20&pagenumber=1) been following it?
I'd be interested to know.

Lurker 08-02-2001, 03:22 AM Dredging this up as I'm curious as to your experience with mxhub.net.
I noticed donnamiller.net is not hosted by mxhub.net, but I'm not sure if that is the site you moved to them originally.
If it was, why did you move?

Hi Lurker
You are right, I am not hosted by mxhub.net (that was resourceful of you, how did you find that out?). I was only with them for a very short time (maybe a week, or less). So I don't really have alot of experience with them, but one thing I can say is that they stuck by their guarantee and refunded me the full amount.
I had never encountered hosting resellers before this last bout of looking for a host. As you can see from my initial post I had left my previous host and gone to the awful ucvhost (who are resellers) and there I found out how bad their site management application was (not to mention their service). At the time I signed up I didn't realize that mxhub was a reseller as well. When I found out they were a reseller I was starting to get an idea for the limitations of resellers and realized that they really can't give me what I need in a host. I can't remember now, but mxhub may also be using the same site management facility that ucvhost was using (which was awful and buggy).
So in the end I went to abihosting.com, which is where my site is hosted now. They are more expensive (the exchange rate really hurts me here, if I were in the US it would be pocket money :( ), but they have been really good so far. They seem to really know their stuff.
I also signed up for a free account at cfm-resources and I haven't had time to really set the site up yet, but they seemed ok too, although if I were to do anything serious I would probably sign up for one of their paid accounts.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
