Just a quick query on this one... I've heard varying versions on this but how much does OpenSRS cost in all...
Is there a...
- monthly cost?
- minimum charge
Anyone actually with them could you post some more info on this one please.
Thanks
Chicken 07-07-2001, 03:03 PM The costs are listed on their site. There is no minimum fee except for start up (which is either $250 or $500), but this cludes 25 or 50 domain 'credits'. No monthly fees either. I've forgotten if you have to buy blocks of domain in 25 or if you can get less...
Do you think dotster.com is a good choice? I dont want to buy bulk and i want minimum start up cost
Walter 07-08-2001, 12:18 PM Dotster is not bad. They are not the cheapest but you don't need to pay upfront and they have a real nice interface.
Aloha
Also dotster has been very good at return emails (had a few questions about there future plans )
I think dotster has the easiest to use interface.
I have about 25 domains with em no probs at all
Ericd 07-08-2001, 02:37 PM Dotster also gets my vote!
You can offer plenty of domains extensions and even url and email forwarding. They take care of the billing, good interface, you can customize the page to reflect your site's design and they have a good reputation :)
Ok i've had a bit of a look arounda t other companies and see they offer the same service for a cheaper price. Registryfly...anyone have any problems with them? Any other suggestions are welcome, thanks
joelmoss 07-09-2001, 05:32 PM If you are serious about reselling domains, then OpenSRS is the way to go. There are no extra or monthly charges and there are no setup fees. You only pay for the cost of the domains.
The $250 that has been mentioned here is a minimum amount that you must purchase at anyone time. (OpenSRS operate on a credit system. You must purchase credits for your account before you can register any domains.)
And there registration and management systems are the best on the market!
Thats rather expensive for a startup cost. I'm really just looking for something cheap, easy and reliable. Isnt there anything that matches?

Aloha
go with Dotster super easy adn good service
inet7 07-10-2001, 01:13 AM My appologies if I'm going backwards here, but there's something to say about the word "value" that's outside of the actual cost of a provider. OpenSRS (http://www.opensrs.org) Lookup the word "Value" in your web host dictionary and you'll find them.
They will not compete with you as a domain registrar, and cater ONLY to resellers. Whats more, when you call, you will get someone on the phone in minutes.
Yes, you have to front some money (which actually applies to RCU's (domain year credits)) and yes the application process is a little lengthy. But all worth it in the end.
As everyone should strive for improvments, the only feature I'd like to see from OpenSRS is the ability to deposit money into our account online (instead of faxing a CC number or wire-transfer only).
You can learn more about them Here (http://www.opensrs.org/a.shtml)
big_smooth 07-10-2001, 01:52 PM OpenSRS...Who does the billing?
Dotster, they take care of the billing...and everything else! You do absolutely nothing, except make that dotster sign up page uniform to your website.
inet7 07-10-2001, 03:09 PM Well, I suppose It all depends. If you want full control over how much you can charge your clients, opensrs allows for that. I'm not sure about the others.
What do people think about http://www.registerfly.com?
The prices are good, how is there service? Their customization aint too good though
TheOp 07-10-2001, 08:03 PM I think they (registerfly.com) are an eNOM reseller.
TechnoHosts 07-10-2001, 11:17 PM godaddy.com has a great private level service. I highly suggest you go with them.
slade 07-11-2001, 12:27 AM I use dotster for registering domains for myself and my company. It beats the heck out of NetSol for usability.
Be very careful which agreement you click-agree to... One of them carries a hefty penalty, if you decide to get a little deeper into Net processes...
3. License Fee: In the event that the Reseller becomes an Accredited Registrar of domain names under agreement with ICANN, NSI,. or any other accrediting entity, Reseller will be assessed a $50,000 license fee for the Application Program Interface ("API") and client reference software ("Software") payable within 15 days of acceptance by a accrediting agency. If DOTSTER receives certification of the destruction of all data, APIs, RI-System, software and documentation received under this agreement, this fee may be waived.
My business can't afford that...
