View Full Version : "Retro" webdesigner needed !!
beatz 05-26-2003, 09:32 AM Hi,
i am looking for a webdesigner or a webdesign company that is specialized in or familiar with retro (30's - 70's) or cartoon-style lookin webdesign and has a portfolio to prove.
No, *NOT* looking for someone that "can design any style you want, just let us know", i need to see *a portfolio* with mentioned styles included.
To give you an idea about what i mean by retro/cartoon, here some sites i found that are designed in the style im looking for:
http://www.altoids.com
http://buyarock.com
http://www.renegadeanimation.com
http://www.renegadecartoons.com
http://www.naildistribution.com
Doesnt *have* to be flash at all, i even prefer pure html with graphics for seo reasons, but a mix of flash and html would be ok too.
I would also consider any modifiable templates in that style.
Would be able to do it myself but not enough time on my hands.
So, if you think you or your company meets above requirements or if you have any recommendations, please let me know.
PM, email or post here please.
Would really be appreciated.Thanks
Mekhu 05-26-2003, 10:00 AM I'd also recommend trying elance.com.
Post the project for free and if you find someone, great... if not, doesn't cost you a thing!
Trianic 05-26-2003, 10:57 AM http://www.lulasvintage.com/default.php
Its still in production (and the client chose the colours, it was previously in a very nice beige and blue) but if its the kind of thing you are looking for, let me know.
beatz 05-26-2003, 11:39 AM Thanks,
do you have a portfolio online?
The lulasvintage thing is nice but i would need to see a bit more of your work as on the lulas site the retro is basically "just" the fonts.
Nice&clean though :)

i dont see any retro style in either of your portfolios... cmon people stop the spamming, if you cannot provide him what he requires, dont post for the sake of posting...
By when would you require mockups?
I don't have a portfolio with this style, but I'll try my hand at it.
Edit:
=============================================
He said he'd take templates, what i was referring to was...
"Im a design company, our expert team.. blah blah blah, heres out porftolio" and when you see it, all it is is the modern tecchish stuff we all love.
I'm offering to try my hand at it, but im not going to waste his time with a portfolio that has no relevance to what he requested.
But I see what you mean gooroo, so I'm pulling out.

Caimin 05-26-2003, 02:12 PM Beatz,
Love those sites you listed!
A fair amount of the work in my portfolio ( www.caiminjones.com (http://www.caiminjones.com) ) has a cartoon feel to it. For example, there's a Flash game I recently designed and programmed for a client in the UK at http://www.bonjour.org.uk/numbers/gameshow.htm - it has a cartoon / retro look to it.
Cheers,
Caimin Jones
beatz 05-26-2003, 02:56 PM Thanks for all that posted so far, keep them coming.
However, as ruad has rightfully pointed out already, there is absolutely NO SENSE in posting your portfolio if you dont meet my requirements.
The reason for those requirements is i absolutely know what i want but its just too difficult to explain to someone who has never done this kind of design. Therefore its essential for me to find someone who just by looking at above example links *knows* what kind of style im into and has a portfolio like that.
I just cant afford to wade through 100s of thousands webdesign portfolios that are not meeting my requirements.
I know about elance and all, i know there are zillions of webdesigners and companies out there so if i just needed *some* webdesign company,i would already have hired one.
But i need something SPECIFIC done.
So again:
Only post if you already have a portfolio that meets above requirements or if you have templates that meet them.
Recommendations are truly welcomed of course.
As for budget:
Budget will be discussed with who gets the job, not in public.
Finally - i will send a PM or email only to the ones where i think they meet the requirements. So if you dont receive an answer, dont feel insulted please, its just my time doesnt allow me to reply to each and every post.
Thank you.
designNYC 05-26-2003, 05:41 PM If your budget allows, I highly recommed using Jason from Webagent007.com
He is a master in retro and the style/look feel you want ..
He is at par with top design firms/freelancers as far as flash/design/style is concerned.
Charges are $100/hour min for web design/flash or per project basis ...
Agent's website ::
webagent007 (http://www.webagent007.com/)
beatz 05-26-2003, 06:59 PM Thanks for the link, designNYC.
Went to agent007 and took me like 3 minutes to figure out how to navigate that site - plus their site is soo hightech-flashy im still not sure what their core business is really. It doesnt say anything about webdesign there. :)
Anyway, does this Jason have an online portfolio ?
Would be interested to take a look at it if hes familiar with retro as you said.
Thanks :)
marengo 05-27-2003, 09:35 AM I can do it. i can draw and i have not a bad imagination. :) And i want do it , because all websites which i've made were absolutely classic :( I'm dreaming to make the site as your idea. Once i've made work for my friends: "newspaper" looking website: 1day of hapiness :D. u can visite my website for proof of my skills . Not all sites are there.
beatz 05-27-2003, 11:15 AM Thanks but not what im looking for really. :)
To all:
Since i have posted this ad, i am getting spammed by email with everything *BUT* what i have requested, in other words people offering me "i can do everything no matter whatyou need, lets talk" (although i clearly stated in my very first post i DONT need that !!) to "we are a design company..blahblah..experts..blahblah" and when i go to their site its just *another* hightech-wannabe portfolio or even a great folio but not related to ANYTHING i requested - i even had a photographer offering thier service and sent me a link to their photography portfolio !!
EXCUSE ME ?!?!?!!
Did i ask for a photographer ?! No, i clearly didnt.
Really, no intention to come across rude, but i came to WHT because business partners recommended it so i expected PROFESSIONALS here or at least a professional behaviour - from what i am experiencing right now, im pretty disappointed i have to say.
I mean, i posted specific requirements, still all i get is spam really.
No problem at all if there is just noone meeting those requirements, bad luck for me BUT i really dont need this kind of spam when i posted my SPECIFIC requirements as detailed as possible.
For all others, please keep sending me your links - that is if you think you meet the requirements.
Thank you.
marengo 05-27-2003, 01:12 PM exuse me, i didnt spam your email, but, pls, if u need " PROFESSIONALS" why you don't want to ask some design studio? Or you can ask professional artists with some years of experience. I can give you links and their emails. Or do you want professionals for $100? or what? as for me, i'm not a beginner. I'm advanced beginner. Not many ppls can re-create my artworks. All my works were done from 0 in photoshop (no photos, no filters etc). If you ask here it means you need someone who is agree make job for you for really cheap, huh. Or may be do you want we'll spend some hours to make a draft and you will decide? I think you have to respect designers and artists a bit. ;) I understand very good why you are so angry. But anyway... And I also recommend you: try elance.com
sorry, i just want to understand your position and your criteria's...
beatz 05-27-2003, 01:27 PM Uh ?!
First of all, i didnt address it to you, marengo, did i ?
Second, what is it you are talking about - did i mention my budget ANYWHERE ?!
So why are you talking of "professionals for $100" ?!
Also, im looking for*anybody* that meets the requirements, design studio, professional, beginner - i dont care as long as the requirements are met - thats why i have posted this ad.
And no, i didnt post here because (quote) "it means you need someone who is agree make job for you for really cheap, huh."
As said, this place was recommended by business partners so i thought i might find someone here suitable for the job.
Btw - you can be a beginner and still be professional - at least in your behaviours. And i just dont find it professional if people email me with offers that are in no way related to my requirements.
As this means THEY IGNORE them. And that is what is not professional to me.
Finally, first thing i did when joining here was reading THE RULES.
I really recommend you do that too.
Now quit disturbing this job ad.
Thanks.
Caimin 05-27-2003, 03:41 PM Beatz,
It seems you're not having much luck in your search. You might want to try Were-Here Forums (http://www.were-here.com). It's primarily a Flash designer / programmer forum but there are high quality designers hanging around there - many of whom are skilled in cartoon and retro looks.
As well as the "Jobs" forum, you might want to look at the "Cartoons & Animation" forum for possible people.
Good luck with your search.
Caimin
beatz 05-27-2003, 04:15 PM Thanks for the hint(s), Caimin :)
