First of all sorry for my poor english. :stickout
Here's my problem:
I would like to share a server with a friend of mine. Let's say I buy an housing service and we decide to share 50% everytihng.
Do I have to worry about what he does with his 50%? Is it possible to isolate his hd space/band from mine?
Do I have to worry if an incorrect usage from him could cause a down of my site?
Thanks,
Marco
:)
Aloha
well if it is your friend you should be able to work with him ??
maybe install 3 hd one for OS and one each for your space
not sure if you could set it up to use dual nics assign a dif ip to each tehn monitor bandwith that wya you have one he has one (others I am sure will correct me on this if I am wrong but thought you could do it this way)
as far as touching the os and cpu usage others might have a better clue

regarding how to know how much bandwith each of you will be using, you can use mod_throttle (or something similar like that) that will track down the data transfer (I believe not just data transfer due http--such as in the case of webalizer, but also data transfer due to ftp, mails, etc) utilized by each account (or by each domain, or by each IP, etc).
cheers,

1. Yes.
2. Yes.
3. Yes.
What you may want to look into is Virtual Private Servers. This sets up (more or less, short version) two or more seperate servers on the same machine (each with own root directory). There are even some free admin control panels out there, but I'm not sure how easy it is to set up and maintain (nor your knowledge about such systems, or server admin in general).
If you both share root, then you should (of course) be concerned, but as mentioned there are ways to throttle bandwidth, and secure space to some extent.

Ok thanks for your help.. I think I think it's not worth to risk a down only to save few bucks.
Thanks,
Marco.
