Im looking for a reliable host that will allow for unlimited MySQL databases.
The other requirements are pretty minor.

3-5 GB of bandwidth
150 MB hard space
php

Thanks for any recommendations.

Do you really need unlimited? I'm sure you can come up with an approximate number? 5? 10? 50?

I would suggest looking around, maybe posting in or looking through the request forum?

Evry host has own limits. But sometimes these limit quite good and you have enough reserve...

So u should decide how many databases you need?

And can you put tables from several databases in one DB? Or you think that it would not work?

The reason I need umlimited databases is because I will be allowing users to create their own message-boards. I will need a database for each message board.
Its just so much easier for me to have each board with its own database.

Im leaning toward p4host.com at the moment

Dathorn.com offers unlimited. I like their support, it is very fast and I am sure lots of others will recommend it.

Just use prefixes. It is much easier and can all be done in 1 table.

Most offer unrestricted/"unlimited" which means you can create as much as your disk space allows.

Your original specs of 150mb space and 3-5 gig of BW will be your main limiting factor on the number of databases.
5 clients could easily use that up if their message boards are busy.

As blue said, with unlimited databases as a service, your databases would only be limited by the amount of space you have available on your package.

That's the limiting factor on all "unlimited" services.

Okay, I hate to add something to a fixed-place post in the forum, but, this is relevant... if not a little a dumb question.

A lot is made by hosts of the number of databases they allow in their various hosting packages. I work a lot with databases, and generally one database can hold hundreds of tables, and therefore many dozens of applications. The only consideration, as noted above, is security between apps.

My question about MySQL is therefore:

Aside from the above situation where others will be using the databases, is there some form of technical reason -- I mean some limitation on numbers of tables or total data or size with MySQL -- why you would NEED more than one database?

Aside from convenience, and suiting customer's needs, is there a reason why hosts offer more than one?

Genuine question being asked. I am a MySQL novice.

When offering a service like that you should really look at getting your own dedicated box. It'll provide you with much more space, bandwidth, and more importantly full resources without getting into problems with a host using a shared account.
