I'm considering moving some domains from Register.com to somewhere less expensive. I don't want to lose the functionality they give us there. Like changing Administrative, Org, Tech contact information, DNS server, IP, Great DNS editing ability, quick updates of DNS, etc.

How are the other services control panels? They all give NO examples and so I'm kind of hesitant to change but their pricing is very tempting and with lot's of domains I could save a lot of money right now!

Anyone here used both Register.com and Dotster? or Register.com and Stargate, etc.

Did you noticed/increased decreased functionality between them and how?

Another words - who has the best Control Panel for Domain Management that you guys have seen?

Thanks!!

:D

I have transferred a boat load of domains over to dotster from Register.com and I'm very happy with the domain management tools they offer and with their support. The $11.95 registrar transfer deal was also a great incentive :D

Not too many years ago I moved boat loads from NSI to Register.com for the same reason ;)

Yes,
I did the same thing and I'm glad as hell I did! NSI is the worst example there is, uggg ..

Well I'm looking at this rate of $8.00 per domain for a transfer at http://stargateinc.com

That looks pretty tempting but not sure what their panel is like? They state you can modify name server entries for your domains. Modify mail servers, IP addresses and host names, URL Forwarding with masking/cloaking all for FREE.

Dotster.com looks good too, not sure between the two ..

if ya do a search on stargateinc.com I think it was Dogma that posted some screen grabs of there admin area

I am thinking of using them as they have better dns control than dotster I use dotster now and love em but am looking at stargateinc.com as a alternative.
do a search though someone posted some screen grabs

Thanks,

Yes, I found those too later. Seems to have everything needed for DNS and such. I just tried a transfer and received this error:
An Error has occurred
Your transfer accept was unsuccessful because of the following error:

"Your domain could not be processed becuase of the current state of your domain. Please contact your current registrar with any questions you may have. "

Hmmm .. Strange -
Hahah, they mis-spelled the word "because" :stickout

Wonder if it was just something I entered in wrong, the domains have been ours for years, they are due to expire in late August, transferring from Register.com. We'll see, I left a message or two with them ..

Thanks

Well, still no luck with 3 seperate support emails trying to get these domains transferred over to www.stargateinc.com. No answer from the Stargateinc email system yet, so I wouldn't call their support system Great. I'm still on hold, I have time to wait, tried calling and got nothing but answering machine twice now on Friday .. I'll try again on Monday..

Keep us posted, I'm also interested in stargateinc and their support and service.

Bear in mind that with Dotster, you don't get a free DNS control panel where you can change things like your IP. You have to pay $10 per year per domain extra for this, which basically means that your $11.95 deal suddenly goes up to $21.95.

Joker.com, on the other hand, does provide a comprehensive DNS control panel. I don't know if you can transfer domains to Joker though.

Just something to bear in mind.

Yes, you can transfer domains to Joker.com but not familiar on how many hoops of fire one has to jump through to get it completed.

I have transferred one domain to Stargate for testing purposes, and have found the service they provide poor at best. Also, their control panel has many glitches. For instance, I could not change the DNS servers -- all I got was an error every time I tried. After emailing them, and waiting about a week for a response, I got back that "we've fixed it". So I log in, and guess what? Yep, still broken.

So this time I emailed them again and told them to fix it ASAP, they emailed me back that they were unable to fix the problem, but the guy offered that every time I wanted to make a change, I just send it to him by email and he will do it for me

If Stargate can fix the problems with their control panel, they'll be worth considering. Right now, I'd rather pay a few bucks extra to get the level of service I need.

I have experienced the exact opposite. I have yet to have a problem with the control panel.

e-mail support can be a little slow, but I use their phone support and wait no more than a few minutes.

On a side note: I have seen posted a number of times within this forum "I have waited a week or longer for a response from abc company". I am not defending slow response times but why on earth would anyone wait a week or longer for a response. After a day or two pick up the phone.

Not everyone is based in the USA or Canada, and international phone calls can be quite expensive. It's no fun being on hold for 10 minutes when you're paying a dollar per minute.

I'm not leaning negative or positive with regard to stargateinc, I'm just telling what I am experiencing. If I wasnt interested in their services, I would not waste my time investigating them. As for phone support, I never use it for anything internet based. If I am forced to pick up the telephone for an internet based business situation i.e. registrars, hosting, buying goods, I'll take my money else where. Bottom line, if it cannot be resolved via e-mail, why am I online?

Aloha dito here
I figure if they are in the interent service biz at the core such as dns domains hosting and they can not seem to handle email ??? how are they really doing at what counts ???? and if one can not service a customer one can nto service there own self
that is my thought

I to am curious about stargate I was going to try em out yesterday but could not get onto there site for some time last night and it was through midnight to 1:30 here which is the 6:30 am EST release of domains so went back to dotster again
so far I did 3 domains with go daddy there interface is very ackward and not very user friendly at all compared to dotster so far my choice is still with dotster ;)

I don't agree...Not everything can be handled through e-mail. Sometimes you just have to pick up the phone. A lot can get lost in translation through e-mail.

Aloha yes very very true
I guess I should have said if they can not respond to email within a dya or so being in a service biz that time is critical.

I will call sometimes if email is not helping but if email is not answered in a few days that is bad

Bulkregister.com has a good control panel and has been quite reliable in my experience.
Not the cheapest though. There's a fee of $79 for joining. If you register less than 50 domains a month, it costs $12/domain. If you register more than 50 in a single month, the costs come down to $10/domain and stay that way.

Only drawback is that each individual domain does not have its own control panel. Any changes must be made by you.

Cheers,

Matra

Has anyone ever tried www.GKG.net

$9.99 per year, a very nice control panel and they give you a free year if you transfer a domain to them but they do charge $9.99 for the transfer so wahoo!

what I like is I can ALWAYS get them on the phone and they have an 800 number!:D
