View Full Version : Recommend a good registrant to transfer to?

Bulkregister have just annoyed me for the last time.

I have a name that was registered with them by a host that ripped me off and "disappeared" (itslondon.com - dont get conned). I cant control the name directly and have had 2 unpleasant experiences requesting changes.

they keep telling me to go through the company I registered with. I had to fax them with billing records to prove I own the name etc. Then the next time I ask for change they tell me to go through company etc. again!

I email them telling them to consult their records and they reply that I must pay $79 to become a member or go to one of their resellers!

I just sent them an angry email tellling them I will consult some experts and if I am forced to transfer it they wont be getting a penny out of it since I already paid money concerning this name!

Anyone got any suggestions?

www.stargateinc.com They are very good and have great support. I have never been on hold for more the 5 minutes. They are cheap too. :)

I would recommend dotster.com

I've had a look at them both and they both look good.

Do they both give you full control of your name online ala networksolutions. DNs, etc?

stargate lets you control everything...you can even change admin, tech, etc. contacts. It is very nice and easy to use, a lot easier then the evil NetSol

There are a number of registrars that have been favorably mentioned here, and a few problems with a couple of them. A search will disclose several names,

jumpdomain.com seems to be a good company with excelent support.

I have domains residing at the following:

NetWorksolutions
Register.com
Joker.com
Dotster.com

Dotster has been the best for support and user management so far.

Once again the excellent membership of this forum comes through!

I'll do some more looking in depth and make my mind up.

Thanx all!

I may even consider putting all my names in one place coz I would like to be lazy like that:D

gonna have to vote for stargateinc.com

i've moved my last domain from dotster to stargateinc.com - dotster was great too but just got a 45day notice about my domain expiring... so I just transferred it over to stargateinc.com (still being transferred i suppose)

:)

g'luck

StargateInc.com is at the Moment My absolute Favorite (have >50 Domains with them and they grow): good Prices (the cheapest), great Support (Mail or Live via Website), super Controllpanel (Password Protected) where you can change everything what you want (Example: You have 5 Domains and transfer your Site to a new Provider = new DNS and Technical Person; now you can change this at one Domain and say that it should also change it to the same Data's to all Domains).

Kick ass support - plus they use openSRS

I know,

I should have taken the time to look around a bit more.

I was just so angry with Bulkregister I didnt think.

But people helped anyway.

But I will most likely be going with stargate.

I've learned my lesson about registrars the long and hard way and I wanted to make a decision on facilities as well as price. For future registrations as well.

But it looks like I get both there :)

Waiting to see what bulkregister have to say for themselves (probably take a week!)

What I sent earlier:

So what youre telling me is despite the fact that I have been misled and
conned by itslondon, had months of trouble regarding my domain name with
them (and never having recovered a sum of money they owe me) that I cannot
controll by domain name directly with you as is quite normal with
registrants these days.

That I have to pay to become a member of your service to control my domain
name registered with you or pay a transfer fee to a reseller of yours.

I feel quite offended by this situation as I have already paid money
involving this domain name. I will be consulting hosting and registration
experts (Just posted on the best webhosting forum on the internet - where I
am am a member) regarding this situation and if I am forced to pay for a
transfer of this name it will be neither to you nor to one of your
resellers. It takes too long to get email responses from your company and
some emails in the past have simply been ignored or not responded to.

It is bad enough I would have thought that one of your resellers has
caused disrepute but your company seems quite happy to add to that
situation.

You have the option to become a BulkRegister member and we can assist you in
transferring the domain to your account. This option will allow you to
manage and access your domain directly. To become a member of BulkRegister
there is a one-time membership fee of 79 dollars. We can also recommend
another reseller of BulkRegister.com that can maintain your domain and
assist you with any domain modifications. Or you can transfer your domain
out of BulkRegister to another registrar. You will need to contact your
registrar of choice for their policies and procedures.

I use Stargate and Dotster. Just this week, I transferred a domain from Domaindirect to Stargate. At some point I received my user name and password via email. For security reasons I changed PW immediately - only to receive a new email containing UN and PW. I wrote to them about it, in quite a friendly manner, although I was rather shocked and pissed off at this. No response as yet. How does one change UN and PW at Stargate without receiving a blasted confirmation email? My guess is it isn't possible. This is *so* bad!

Have you tried contacting their support dept. via phone?? Just use their 800#

I received a confirmation, but it did not include my username and password. maybe they changed it...Stargateinc.com is generally pretty good about making changes there customers request.

Thanks for the suggestion, TheOp. I haven't tried that. I live in Denmark, and I don't think free phone works from over here.

I am irritated and struck by wonder at the same time: I mean, why don't they just let people type in the PW twice so they don't have to confirm it via email? Everything else is brilliant. In fact, I expect in time to make them my main registrar, mainly due to their low prices, i.e. provided I can change UN and PW without receiving a confirmation email.

Try it again. Like I said, I changed a username/password this morning and the username and password was not included in the confirmation.

cybahomie

That's funny! Prior to writing, I had changed it once after the original confirmation, that is, I had by then received two confirmation emails. Then, just before posting, I opened a new browser window and changed PW which gave me my third confirmation email.
Cheers

Okay, I think I've figured it out. Unless there's a belated confirmation email underway, what you do is this. Don't change UN and PW on the first page after login, because that will trigger a confirmation email. Change them for the individual domains one at a time. Not a smart design, I must say, but at least this is a secure way to do it.
