View Full Version : Resellers

I saw a post here where someone said something about a web host not wanting people to know that they are resellers.

I'm just Joe Blow consumer out here. I have purchased hosting for myself and for the clients whose web sites I have developed.

Personally, I want to know that a host that I am using and/or recommending is a reseller. Scratch that. I need to know it. I wouldn't tell my clients that I am hosting their site because, if everything goes to Hell in a handbag (as things often do), I want them to know exactly who is responsible.

Recently, I saw that my previous web host is offering reseller accounts. I was flipping amazed at this since, in the 5 months that I was with them, the host could never get the sites it was hosting to anything even remotely resembling a stable state. Can you imagine what that host's resellers would tell their account holders if they were actually trying to keep the fact that they were resellers quiet?

What do you guys think? Is it misleading to customers to not be forthright about being a reseller?

Here's another question... a tangential thought... Not completely related to the previous rambling.

Is it possible for a reseller to have resellers?

Misleading? Yes, if they ask and you deny.

Most people have many anonymity methods (we do anyways) like anonymous server names, custom nameservers, reverse dns, etc.

Is it possible for resellers to have resellers? Sure, but it depends on how exactly you define the term.

Re: Is it possible for a reseller to have resellers

Sure.. some will be anonymous and some wont..

For example, our resellers can resell our reseller packages and you would not be able to trace them back to us.. due to a simple fact, everything is anonymous.. server, domain...etc..so to you, the reseller who sold you the reseller package is your provider..make sense?

It wouldn't matter if it was a reseller or not. The person you deal with is responsible. A reseller is responsible for choosing a host that will be stable enough and to not over load accounts.

Some resellers can be better than the actual host. If the host has a good stable system then the reseller will also and the reseller may offer better customer service due to fewer requests.
