What is the purpose of the site? Why do your visitors come see you today? What kind of visitor volume do you have today? Page views in the 1000's? 10,000's? 100,000's? 1,000,000's? 10,000,000's?

Placing banner ads or affiliate links on a low volume site will most likely not even cover the costs of hosting the site.
