After a registered URL expires, how long does it take before someone else can get it?
Maybe the record isn't what I'm guessing it is.?... Here's what I get now from the whois:
Record expires on 19-May-2003.
Record created on 19-May-2002.
Database last updated on 22-May-2003 11:41:15 EDT.
So if it expired, why can't I take it over?
Thanks,
G.Montag

Anywhere between 35-60 days depending on how quickly the registrar movies.
After a domain is "expired" it is goes into a "hold" status so the previous owner has yet another chance to take the domain again - if they dont do it within about a months time - then it goes into pending delete status where it's deleted shortly thereafter :)

it will become available after 80 or more days.....
if it is a valuable domain, you can try SnapNames.com to snap the domain.

SnapNames has a good record.
GoDaddy has a really poor reputation and for good reason (i won one domain there, but lost against a 8.75$ namewinner bid). It is sketchy at best.
DropWizard.com
NameFox.com
those are two more alternatives.
